TKC NOTE: Here's a quick note from our pal Craig Glazer on the adventures of starting a new club in this town's favorite enclave:
The new Stanford and Sons Restaurant and Comedy Club begins its second month. We opened right into the Royals playoffs and World Series Run. So now we are back to fall comedy and holiday banquets time. This weekend one of my favorite comics, Bobby Slayton. Bobby will be with Susanna Lee Friday and Saturday this weekend.
Slayton has done it all with co starring roles in movies like Get Shorty and Bandits with Burce Willis to his TV series 'Mind of the Married Man' on HBO. Bobby also played Joey Bishop in the movie the Rat Pack with Ray Liota as Frank Sinatra. Bobby is himslef as a cartoon character on Family Guy and is now on the Marc Maron TV series reality show. Slayton is a modern day Don Rickles. He puts down almost everything and everyone, but its fun. Bobby has been starring in the 'Nasty Show' in Montreal these past years for the international Comedy Festival with Jim Jefferies, Lewis Black and Chlesea Handler.
If you haven't been to the new Stanfords its in Rosana Square between Price Chopper and Fuel at 119th and Metcalf. Tons of free parking. After the show and dinner you can check out Kanza Hall or one of the other night clubs at One Block South next door til 2 AM.
Stanfords has maybe comedies best restaurant in the nation with Chef John from Soho fame running the ship. We even brought back the flower pot bread and honey butter.
This fall see not only Bobby but Chris Kattan, Dave Coulier, Colin Kane, Chippendales next week on Wednesday ladies, Nikki Glaser, Richard Pryor's daughter Rain and even super star TJ Miller star of Silicon Valley and Transformers 4 with Mark Wahlberg.
With the new restaruant a new place for holiday or company banquets.

ReplyDeleteHere's the format: Two open mic MCs host an hour long show where CG makes race jokes and NOBODY laughs. He then insults the audience and NOBODY laughs. Calls the blacks in the audience out, still NOBODY laughs.
It is actually great to listen to, only because you never see someone bombing that bad and at their own 'club' too!
Let’s see, Stanfords is located between a Price Chopper (which sells better food) and Fuel which is a much better place to go for drinks and fun. And all this excitement is in a strip mall surrounded by fast food joints. Talk about moving down in the world, but we all know Craig is on his way down no doubt. His football predictions have taken a dump just as his career has. Before long Glazer will be just what he thinks we all are.
ReplyDeleteSo my advice folks who’re thinking of going to Stanfords, go to the liquor store and stock up on your favorite poison, swing by Price Chopper grab some real food to munch on or grab a steak to grill, then swing by a Red Box grab a movie or two and head for home and have a relaxing night eating and drinking as you enjoy entertainment much cheaper than Stanfords is and not have to see or smell Craig or risk catching any sort of critters when going into the shitter.
I think it is weird that this is like another golden age of stand up comedy and Stanford's is getting NONE of the up and comers.
ReplyDeleteThey used to get the old "Road Hard" types like Bobby Slayton while still attracting talent. Looks like he burned too many bridges or the Improv is sucessfully freezing him out.
I see more standup shit than ever before but Stanford's lineup keeps getting worse and worse.

Midland is the place to see standup, not some dive in OP ran by a rat snitch. And yes Glazer does after a while piss people off to the point they say, "fuck him I am done dealing with the jerk".
