TKC QUESTION OF THE DAY: DID THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS DESERVE TO BE SHAMED FOR TRAGIC JOVAN BELCHER DOMESTIC ABUSE COMPLICITY AMID OBLIGATORY RAY RICE REAX?!?!

Kansas City recently earned an embarrassing name check amid national buzz over Ray Rice elevator knockout video called out on CBS by commentator James Brown.

This is all news to me because I thought James Brown was dead and didn't care much about anything other than being the greatest performer in the history of pop music.

Sorry . . . Wrong file photo . . .

Anyhoo . . .

The pre-game comments earned polite applause and politically correct celebration even if they're not going to make much of a difference and Janay Rice is pretty much blaming the media ratings game for creating the bad publicity nightmare.

WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT KANSAS CITY STANDS OUT WITH YET ANOTHER LACKADAISICAL RESPONSE TO HORRIFIC VIOLENCE!!!

Remember that Mayor Sly rushed to Arrowhead in order to comment on the Jovan Belcher Murder/Suicide and also to assure fans that the game would go ahead on schedule.

In 2012, the Jovan Belcher rampage marked the 100th homicide of the year and the national TV reference should remind locals that a brief playoff appearance has resonated more with fans than any impact of a horrific blood spattered scene played out in the parking lot . . . One of two actually.

Like it or not, Kansas City Activist Alonzo Washington is more to the point with his criticism of Ray Rice Reax:

And all of this is drama makes it clear that Kansas City's reputation on the national scene is marred by apathy and corporate complicity amid typically bold pronouncements regarding social ills that will result in very little action.

TRANSCRIPT:

Two years ago I challenged the NFL community and all men to seriously confront the problem of domestic violence, especially coming on the heels of the murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs football player Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins. Yet, here we are again dealing with the same issue of violence against women.

Now let’s be clear, this problem is bigger than football. There has been, appropriately so, intense and widespread outrage following the release of the video showing what happened inside the elevator at the casino. But wouldn’t it be productive if this collective outrage, as my colleagues have said, could be channeled to truly hear and address the long-suffering cries for help by so many women? And as they said, do something about it? Like an ongoing education of men about what healthy, respectful manhood is all about.

And it starts with how we view women. Our language is important. For instance, when a guy says, ‘You throw the ball like a girl’ or ‘You’re a little sissy,’ it reflects an attitude that devalues women and attitudes will eventually manifest in some fashion. Women have been at the forefront in the domestic violence awareness and prevention arena. And whether Janay Rice considers herself a victim or not, millions of women in this country are.

Consider this: according to domestic violence experts, more than three women per day lose their lives at the hands of their partners. That means that since the night February 15th in Atlantic City [when the elevator incident occurred], more than 600 women have died.

So this is yet another call to men to stand up and take responsibility for their thoughts, their words, their deeds and as Deion [Sanders] says to give help or to get help, because our silence is deafening and deadly.

P.S. - Let's not forget that Kansas City is still looking for $15K spent to bring domestic violence enthusiast Floyd Mayweather Jr. to town.

Agree. There should have been a zero tolerance policy then; and now but let's not get distracted both situations were and are heinous.

Mayor Sly is just the guy looking for face time locally and internationally. Can't think of one thing he's done positive for Kansas City, unless of course, you like smoke up the rear.

  4. This public crucifiction of Ray Rice reached it’s sell by date last Tuesday. Every single announcer on ESPN and every major affiliate remonstrated and harrumphed around his or her set as if this unforgivable sin was a ground breaking light year leap into hertofore unknown felonious territory.

    Gimme a break.

Look, Ray Rice is guilty as hell of spousal abuse and should be punished accordingly by the courts of New Jersey, who, by the way, see this type of behaviour every 20 minutes or so in those same courts.

Who amongst you, didn’t understand, when we saw the video of ray dragging his wife’s body out of the elevator, that he punched her? If you didn’t, then you must have been on OJ’s Jury. Of course he punched her.

Here’s the thing, only once, have I seen the video (Maybe you guys have seen it, I havn’t.) begin IN FRONT OF THE STANCHION prior to the elevator doors as Ray and his wife are walking towards the elevotor. In that video, which again, we have all seen, but only at the entrance of the elevator doors, the missus, turns and clocks ray with a right hand. After she and Ray get on the elevator, she hits him again and then comes at him, where we can all see, he drops her like Dwayne Bowe in overtime.

Again, I am NOT making excuses for this guy, his wife couldn’t possibly hurt him, but I do think that this is more about a media feeding frenzy that networks know will sell advertising and keep people engaged if their on air employees all get on board and act more indignant than the guys on the other station.

“Ray needs to attend Anger Management Classes”. Yeah, he does and so does his wife, but there is no mention of her. As ineffectual as her punches were, this event did NOT happen in a vaccuum. He didn’t get up from the table and sucker punch her because the roast was overcooked.

On one network, they had a psychiatrist and a social worker explain to we uneducated folks in the hinterland, that Ray and his wife were alchoholics and in a co dependent and abusive relationship. Get the f*ck outta here. No interviews with either of them, no study of habits, no checking on what friends and relatives say, ZILCH.

As far as I can tell, Ray Rice has never been anything but a good citizen in Baltimore and a credit to the NFL and the sport of football. He didn’t rob a liquor store and shoot someone, he has never before been violent and his girlfriend did marry the guy.

No I do not in any way condone what he did, but there is CONTEXT to these actions and again, this is a feeding frenzy used to sell advertising and promote the agendas of folks who are actually thrilled that Mrs. Rice went down under the fists of a black NFL Player.

    Just my opinion.

  5. In other news a statue was erected in honr of Ray stabby Lewis. Dudes a fucking Gawd in Baltimore. Now working for one of the networks and considered a pillar of the NFL......and at least an accessory to murder if not the actual killer.

  12. A good citizen doesn't hit a woman so hard you the same as knock her the fuck out.

A good man doesn't hit a woman at all unless in self defense.

A man who claims to love a woman never hits her like that ever no matter what she may have or not have said or spitted.

Ray Rice got dealt as he should have been dealt with just to bad it took months to do so.

Rice needs to be banned from all NFL teams and all professional sports playing for life. A message needs to be made and sent here and that is if you want to be a professional ball player then you need to act professional at all times when in public. If the act of doing such is impossible then give up that big paycheck and go to work at Wal-Mart

  19. I am sure Chuck, the bear, glazer, or Tony don't hit women.

C*m rape guy, the dude that hates women, and the man who always makes Jordan carver comments probably do.

I am on the fence about Byron and the n word guy. I do not know if they would hit women or not.

I also do not know why no one is addressing the 10 thousand pound elephant here......PED's or steroids or what ever the fancy word is for them right now. I suppose roid rage could play a part in this because these people are professional athletes. No one even wants to talk about how these drugs mess with people and cause problems like this....for a long time...after you have stopped taking them....years after you have stopped the roids the brain problems remain.

I think PED's could play a part in these types of behaviors.

It isn't like the warnings about roids haven't been here for years. These athletes that do these types of "helpers" darn well know what they are doing to themselves. The temptation is always there to be better and than the best. The drugs can be long gone but the damage to your body is already done and it is just a question of time before it manifests itself in other health issues.

If you are willingly and knowingly taking these substances you have already muddied the waters with your character, so this domestic violence stuff is no surprise...Look at other sports, other athletes, and look at the connection between roids and domestic violence. Seriously, do not let PED users have guns, because their brain can switch at anytime, and usually that involves the person closest to them, the partner.

I wouldn't even want to play street ball with a guy on roids. I suppose the "former users" of roids are real gems to work with. I suppose their overly aggressive and impulsive actions make them easily avoidable. I really wouldn't like to work with a guy that is actively doing this stuff and hasn't been caught yet. I can deal with a wide range of behaviors, and there is a difference between macho posturing and the aggression of sport. You can tell when someone isn't quite right, and I sure as heck wouldn't want to shower with these guys or hang out on planes with them.

So I suspect that former roid users are often involved in domestic issues. I also do not want to be around anybody who has done these sort of drugs because they can switch on you in an instant.
