KANSAS CITY NEWS TALK SATURDAY!!!

Check the KCPT line-up of Kansas City news chat shows discussing this week in politics and media.

First up, the latest episode of our local gold standard political forum - RUCKUS . . .

Dan Cofran kills the vibe right away . . . Which has always been the case with the well meaning civic denizen. Yes he's running for Mayor, no he can't win.

But then the show picks up when they bring the rest of the crew into the mix.

Other topics include:

- Greg Orman Vs. Mark Ruffalo Vs. Pat Roberts: The status quo and the guy you don't now.

- Ruckus Takes Time Out To Consider The Words Of Rachel Maddow And High Praise Of Sen. Claire McCaskill

- Obligatory 9/11 Talk

- The Tragic Missouri Veto Session

- Good News: COMMENTATOR ROASTS AND TOASTS ARE BACK!!!

Now, on to the Kansas City newsmaker conversation and the Week In Review . . .

Lots of statewide talk about Kansas and Gov. Jay in Missouri . . . Sadly, this program will probably never really discuss the quintuple South Kansas City homicides and their political fallout that everybody really wants to hear about . . . Big finish with Kansas City area IKEA celebration.

Like it or not, this is the DEFINITIVE look @ polite conversation in Kansas City and how our betters view this town.

Comments

  1. Did they discuss unsolicited bulk email?

  2. Yael was quick to jump in and give Cofran a "double roast" for his criticism of Sly James. What a suck-up.

  3. Who designed the new set? a 4 year old? the chroma key images floating behind the particiapants is the work of someone who just discovered the tech. Hell, TMZ the crass gossip show has more class than this mash up of lazy tech heads. Nothing better than a dollar sign decapitating Yael.

Actually, for the majority of people "polite" and "respectful" mean the same thing Paco.

Not saying that is the case here, to be sure.

Kind of the difference between conversing and the right to yell. I know it's abstract, but getting a handle on what you parrot back, (freedom of speech, freedom of speech, etc.) requires more than a topical citing of a constitutional right.

An open mind and some deeper understanding of the freedom of speech might take this blog to an additional dimension.

Or, you could just simply continue to bait the cum guy, bigot bear, and handful of haters that have now overwhelmed your board. Challenge to you is, can you achieve the notoriety you seek by a blog with such bitter tones?

Successful people continually assess their actions in light of change. I believe there is room in the KC blogging community for a venue of thoughtful, important dialogue that is not being addressed in Kansas City. But bud, you ain't getting that here.

    Just .02 cents worth.

  5. Cover that 9-5-9. Might be lost here.

  6. I wouldn't mind a little of Jenny's shit on my pecker!!!

  7. Jim Carrey used to bang her and he says he suffers from depression. How can you be depressed and banging her at the same time?

  8. Where is Mary o'hallahan??

  9. Maybe Jim Carrey got so depressed, he is banging Mary O'Hallahan now. I see how depression could lead to suicide.

Dear Mr. Tony: Thanks for posting this info. I am not surprised that neither of these shows is willing to discuss the murder of five elderly people a few days ago. Dan Rather said it best when he said: "Fear haunts ever newsroom in America." By this he meant fear of the "Patriotism Police" of the conservatives and the "Politically Correct Police" of the liberals. It was because of fear of the "Patriotism Police" that the media never asked any hard questions in the leadup to the Iraq War--the journalists who did not ask those questions have on their hands the blood of the Americans and Iraqis who died in this totally unnecessary war. As for the Politically Correct Police, their first rule of covering crime stories is that cases of black on white crime are to be ignored, while cases of white on black crime are to be given screaming, Pearl Harbor type coverage. I hope that the day comes when we finally reach what Dr. King hoped for in his 1963 speech in DC: Where people's merit and worth will not be judged by the color of their skin; ie, where the death of elderly white people will get as much coverage as the death of elderly black people. We are a long, long way from that right now. Sincerely and REspectfully, Ernest Evans

  11. Actually, Dan Cofran sounded very coherent. I didn't think he killed any mood at all. I also believe he can win. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, TKC!

  13. RUCKUS: Your weekly food for thought fight...

Dan Cofran made a good appearance in the brief headliner segment. Hopefully, his conservative pragmatic emphasis on basic city services (what a city should be doing) will present voters with a favorable alternative to the current incumbent.

If anyone ever doubted Mr. Shanin's humor or cynicism, please note his mention of former Mayor Funkhouser.

    Let's start a ruckus.

Roberts Can't Stand "Pat" (good one Shanin!)
Good comments from all four panelists on this topic.

    Cost to Claire, or Koster
Yael vouches for Gov. Claire, while Lisa and Cynthia doubt she'll make the leap.

    9/11 Turning Point...Worse?
Shanin showed a video clip of President Obama's address to the nation this week, in which he declared his authorization to bomb Syria. That this violates international law, emasculates Congress and the Constitution, and demonstrates Obama's hypocritical criticism of Putin's moves into Ukraine, was left for the viewer to determine.

For the best line of the evening, go to the 22:50 mark and listen to Mr. Cozad's comment concerning Presidential history. Truth.

Kudos to Mr. Shanin for following the advice of the wise viewer Forest Holdeman.

    Panelist Grades:
Woody Cozad = A, always brings his "A" game.
Yael Abouhalkah = B, we're enjoying the new improved Yael on Ruckus.
Lisa Johnston = B/B+, a very good rookie appearance, informative with a sense of humor.
Cynthia Wheeler = C, I heard a lot of Democrat consensus-speak, and not much original thought.

The episode with Cozad, O'Halloran, Botello, and Leach remains atop the new Ruckus ratings list. Strong individual showings, who were not part of that episode, include Ron Freeman and Lisa Johnston.

I'm still having my doubts about the headliner segment, as I think that belongs on a separate half-hour show.

Until next time...remember...The first rule of RUCKUS is: You do talk about RUCKUS. The second rule of RUCKUS is: You talk loud about RUCKUS. Third rule of RUCKUS: Someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over.

  15. Hard Charger aka Knee Crawling Queer, maybe you should start a blog. Then you can make whatever rules you choose.

I personally enjoy cum guy, bigot bear, Sean Hannity Chuck, and Byron.

  16. Try, just try, 1059 to express yourself without cussing. Just for the mental exercise.

Now stop sniffing your sisters underwear or the net nanny will be up again.

  17. I very much agree with the in depth analysis posted on Saturday at 9:30 pm.

The introductory headliner interviews have been a real snooze. I wish they would scrap these and focus on the panel.

My two favorite guest panelists so far have been Ron Freeman and Lisa Johnston. I'd love to see a show featuring Woody, Yael, Ron, and Lisa.
