Yael is out of touch. Didn't the Star endorse the streetcar?
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to argue that Sly is not more about fluff than basic services when his streetcar was voted down lost 60-40, when his airport proposal is meeting with outrage, and when he was only able to get the toy train voted in by a gerrymandered mail-in ballot approved by 375 people.

This streetcar bullshit, gerrymandered into existence by a few hundred people (while affecting exponentially more in their pocketbooks) far eclipses the puny fixes he has advocated for. He takes us for fools, and that is why he lost the streetcar construction, and that is why we will have a NEW mayor in the next election. The Star should fire Yael, it might increase subscriptions.

Lost in Cofran’s attack on James for pushing the unsuccessful streetcar expansion on Aug. 5 is the fact that downtown voters approved the initial 2-mile line, supported by the mayor, now under construction.

Yael you feckless piece of toilet waste, who are you kidding? Sly and his contractor friends got a few hundred people to vote for 200 million dollar starter line. When they tried to foist this boondoggle on the rest of Kansas City, they got bitch slapped down. This in spite of Sly using every lever of government at his disposal to either cajole, force or dupe the citizens to go along with his fiscally irresponsible plan. This includes but is not limited to the hundreds of thousands of dollars the City advanced under your signature to the crew that went door to door to try to the poor people along Independence Avenue to vote in favor of your plan and otherwise cut their own throats.

How much money have you squandered on the Streetcar to Nowhere? And since your grand master plan to tax the poor into oblivion failed, where are the extra millions coming from? You are trying to knock down our perfectly serviceable airport for another borrowed billion dollars or so. No doubt you would like to borrow three or four hundred million to finance another downtown hotel apparently not mindful of the Kay Barnes Boondoggle which left us with a ten to twenty million dollar annual deficit to finance the Power and Light District (which the average citizen and certainly the poor citizens are not allowed or cannot afford to go or both). Water bills are up. Electric bills are up. And the streets and other parts of the City infrastructure are crumbling. The City under your and Troy Schulte's careful eye keeps paying out millions of dollars to settle discrimination lawsuits. You were a "star" reporter for the Star while the public school system was looted and the students sent down the drainpipe of lifelong poverty and illiteracy while your own precious bambinos did not even go to school in Kansas City (feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

Luckily we voted down that big streetcar expansion. Now only a narrow short strip of KCMo has to calculate and coordinate moving away from their apartments in that expensive taxing district.
ReplyDeleteMayor Sly should be thankful/greatful it didn't pass. If it had, there is a very good chance he would have gone down in history as the KC Mayor that lead to the biggest exodus of long time residents since the War of Rebellion.

ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if the Star would hire a reporter to take Yael's place. They need to hire some one who has the integrity to compare City Hall plans with those done in other cities. If Yael would have done that he would have been able to forwarn us of the deficit spending that will take place forever or until the street car tracks are pulled up. The Star of course is so far out of touch that they can not even begin to retool.

ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't. Truth is true. Nothing else is. That's why people don't have a good perception of the Kansas City Star. They are lame and bias. A rag that isn't worth reading except there is no other paper in town. The Kansas City Business Journal could totally replace the KC Star and nobody would care. Better stories. Better researched and they actually plan. The Star is past its useful life. Don't know who Yael's audience is but they can't be buying any of his bull...
