TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KCFD AMBULANCE BILLING SERVICE PETITION STAYS WINNING AND DELIVERS 10K SIGNATURES TO SMACKDOWN KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY OUTSOURCING EFFORT!!!
Mayor Sly James has been met with a stern rebuke from grassroots activists who have gathered an army of voters signing on to a petition to stop an effort to outsource Kansas City Fire Department ambulance billing services.
Yesterday, petitioners turned in 617 pages of signatures which totaled more than 5,000 i(10k+ total) in order to stop an effort to outsource this important city service.
On July 29th these petitioners delivered over 5,600 signatures. The group needs 7,143 signatures to put their effort on the ballot. In their first try, 4,112 signatures were counted as valid by the City Clerk, giving the group around a 74% clearance rate. Consider that this last batch of petitions was gathered during the Aug. 5th primary election and most understand that the community effort to stop the KCFD outsourcing has been successful in capturing a great deal of support.
Overall, the group has more than 10k signatures on hand which is more than "Save The Plaza" protestors earned to stop Polsinelli's high rise office building plan. Organizers believe their signature gathering efforts might be a recent record when it comes to engaging voters via citizen initiative petition.
Now, the City Council can either repeal the ordinance to outsource ambulance billing OR risk losing an embarrassing vote to an electorate that already seems convinced about the dangers of this deal.
One Kansas City Insider notes . . .
"This is a terrible contract, and we shouldn’t be so naïve that we are fooled by empty promises of millions of dollars in increased collections when Intermedix refuses to put such requirements in the contract.
"Plus, there are enough readily known instances of cities, counties and other governmental agencies dropping Advanced Data Processing, Inc./Intermedix as their EMS billing contractor to raise serious concerns about proceeding with this contract at this time."
However . . . For TKC, one thing about this petition effort is clear . . .
THIS IS YET ANOTHER EPIC SMACKDOWN OF MAYOR SLY'S POLICY AND POLITICS BY GRASSROOTS ORGANIZERS!!!
Nobody understands why Mayor Sly kept pushing this doomed plan that was defeated in committee but then reintroduced and rammed through by the increasingly stubborn Mayor who seems to be earning his reputation for playing "win at all costs" politics.
However . . .
THESE GRASSROOTS PETITIONERS REALIZE THAT BULLIES ONLY UNDERSTAND DIRECT CONFRONTATION AND ONCE AGAIN IT'S REVEALED THAT MAYOR SLY'S POLICIES SIMPLY DO NOT RESONATE IN KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE!!!
Jobs for Justice and more than a few union groups took this petition to local churches and election stations and they were met with a obviously warm reception. The reality of KCMO Ambulance billing outsourcing is that it could very well impose heavy fees and other risks on the community.
There has been fear about patient data and privacy along with other concerns about higher KCMO ambulance costs.
Accordingly, the strong response to defeat the measure is understandable.
Now . . .
MAYOR SLY IS CONFRONTED WITH 10K VOTERS WHO DISAGREE WITH HIS STRONG-ARM POLITICAL TACTICS IN RAMMING THROUGH THIS EFFORT!!!
And while nobody can be sure about Mayor Sly's motivation for pushing through the bad deal, what's clear is the community rejection of Mayor Sly's plan is once again overwhelming and decisive.
Developing . . .
Sly has never been a policy guy. He didn't really understand how this thing worked. Wonder if he gets the message now?
ReplyDeletedoubt it. he has a tin ear
ReplyDeletePlus this happened in FERGUSON and FERALS and HURF DURF DUH
ReplyDelete(this is obviously missing from the post since you've tried to associate everything from a firefighter getting beat up to the price of bacon to Ferguson)
S'lie don't give a flying fack !
ReplyDeleteBut...Jan Marcason said we shouldn't sign the petition! And she seems real, real smart to me!
ReplyDeleteWow. That's 10k voters willing to question Mayor James' so-called authority. Damn. This ain't his law firm where he is the boss.
ReplyDeleteNobody out here is asking "how high" when he says "Jump!"
He is Mark Funkhouser.
Interesting observation. There is definitely a similarity, less the Gloria issue.
ReplyDelete$ly Jame$ is done. Bring on the next amature urban planner and real estate speculator!!!!
ReplyDeleteWill the Star and Horsley ignore this and act like its not news?
ReplyDeleteYes, they will look the other way and rationalize their inactivity as she and Yael refuse to cover anything other than happy talk about Sly. I think Yael is gun shy after his Funk failure, and Lynn is just too lazy to dig deeper than press release level. Bigger picture, the Star goes to great lengths to promote this mayor in an effort to avoid the racist label.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it goes to a vote, and if people support it, that's the end of the line. So this is by no means a slam dunk. Even though these employees are technically KCFD employees, they like all former mast ambulance employees, are not really integrated into FD.
ReplyDeleteBut despite that, all the recent negative publicity about KCFD employees will likely have fallout for the billing people. The public just see KCFD and don't realize it's actually two organizations... all former mast people, and then the fire side.
I
Bottom line - the majority of the voters are sick of Sly's selfish ways. He does what is best for HIM and his buddies, not what is best for the City. That is why he will not be re-elected.
ReplyDeleteThis is another in a growing trend of major losses for the self proclaimed leader of greater KC. Next in the que: The airport and starter line plan 4.
ReplyDeletenatch..KCFD able to get 10,000 fellow Democrat greedy union slobs to sign BS petition..
ReplyDeletethey want to keep their scam going .. at chump taxpayers expense
Mr. Tony,
ReplyDeleteI signed the petition. I do not work for the fire suppression department.
I am hearing more and more people start to say that they don't think the Mayor has much focus--and that he is bigger on style than on substantive ideas that can move the city forward.
ReplyDeleteGive me one victory Sly has had? School district takeover? Airport? 1,000 room hotel? RNC? TDD? Brookside streetcar? 0 wins, all major losses. The circulator downtown? Shaping up to be his biggest loss as nothing will connect to this boondoggle and it goes nowhere.
ReplyDeleteNo one likes his asshole style. WE now see where Kyle gets his attitude - from his DADDY.
ReplyDeleteWhen is Sly going to call in the National Guard to squelch this mob?
ReplyDeleteSome people on here have implied that he has a temper? Has anyone seen it or is that just rumor?
ReplyDeleteYes, I have and he is an asshat. Channel 5 has a video of him going off on a young female reporter. The Star would have crucified barnes or Funk for his unprofessional outburst, but Sly got a pass. Wonder why that is?
ReplyDeleteSly is losing. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteWhere is the cheer leader Cindy
ReplyDeleteFunk wins
ReplyDeleteThank God people are now calling the bully on his BS. He is going to wreck this city otherwise.
ReplyDeleteForget it. Your gone. Done deal. Bye Bye
ReplyDeleteI've never lived in a city where the fire department is such story every week or two.
ReplyDeleteIs there just something inherently moronic about the way the KCFD is run?
You'd think these fuckers were running NASA over there as complicated and dramatic as things perpetually are.
Inherently moronic is a perfect description. Corrupt would also fit.
DeleteInherently moronic is a perfect description. Corrupt would also fit.
DeleteLook pal, you never lived in a city this old with layers of crumbling infrastructure
ReplyDeleteOutsource! Show me one productive city worker. They don't exist.
ReplyDeleteThe union runs the fire dept. go to a station during the day and you will find them playing video games, watching tv or sleeping. They can't even change a light bulb, they have to call the city maintenance. It's all because of the union contracts.
ReplyDeleteWait til your house is on fire and see how good these guys are. I don't know a single one of these guys personally, but my house almost went up in flames and they were here in a New York minute and saved my home. They were professionals through and through.
ReplyDeleteDeflect. Deflect. Deflect. And don't address the real issue. James is "outsourcing" jobs and contracts to contributors or potential contributors. This is old school cronyism and corruption playing out before our eyes. Will anyone at the Star even start to pay attention? Someone wake up Lynn and Yael, Sly just sent them another press release to get to work on!
ReplyDeleteYou probably just happen to live right at the halfway point between the station and the Price Chopper where they were headed for their nightly sirloins.
ReplyDeleteOr of Sly's drinking habit
ReplyDeleteTroy Schulte runs KCFD.
ReplyDeleteThey gave Berardi the Chief's job with the understanding he does whatever Sly and Troy ask.
FACT: He can't make any changes or budget decisions without Troy approving it.
He's not even allowed to write a check without Schulte's signature on it.
4:48 - you are actually correct. Right smack in the middle of Brookside, between the Wornall station and the Price Choppa. But they still did a great job, even if they were on their way to a steak fry. And who cares what they do at the fire station between calls, as long as they do their job ON calls - which they do.
ReplyDeleteYes he has a temper and also likes to intimidate some who work at city hall. He's a moron.
ReplyDeleteWhy is nobody angry about Jan Marcason's totalitarian op-ed in the Star telling people not to sign the petition? It was so haughty, in my opinion.
