TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! AFTER COMMUNITY REJECTS KANSAS CITY AMBULANCE BILLING OUTSOURCING AMID REPEALED ORDINANCE: NO BID CONTRACT IN THE WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES!!!

There is good news for Kansas City Democracy in the recent controversy about ambulance billing outsourcing.

Kansas City voters and volunteers organized a petition signed by over 10,000 people and community involvement helped save KCFD jobs, kept a private company with a shaky history from taking over and showed City Hall that voters really do care about the details of their local government. This was obviously an important achievement.

However . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES THERE'S ALREADY WORK MOVING FORWARD ON A NO BID CONSULTING CONTRACT FOR THE AMBULANCE BILLING COMPANY AT THE CENTER OF THIS HOT MESS!!!

Mainstream media is reporting that a constituting contract was part of a failed compromise . . . But that's only part of the story.

Reality . . .

LIKE IT OR NOT: CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR SLY'S STAFFERS ARE NOW ATTEMPTING TO ROUTE NO BID CONSULTING CASH TO THE COMPANY THAT THOUSANDS OF KANSAS CITY VOTERS REJECTED!!!

Again, this isn't the "compromise" that some have noted in the last few paragraphs of their reports but a NEW DEAL THAT STINKS just as badly.

  1. So, the lesson here is that you can fight City Hall, but you have to keep fighting.

  3. What people don't realize is that the cluster fuck of an EMS service run by Chief Berardi is the core reason that the billing department is having such a hard time doing their job. It's not the billing people's fault, it's ultimately Troy Schulte's fault for hiring an incompetent Chief that has no experience whatsoever in running an ambulance service.

  4. It is past time to fire Troy, he contributes nothing.

  16. $250K apology note to Sly's Intermedix buddies for not being able to come through for them in the crooked deal to outsource a city service and pay private companies to do a poor job with public money.

Even the stamp on the letter was paid for by taxpayers.

    Union busting never saves money.

  20. God only knows what their motivation is...but it seems to me that ambulance services should be a public service---not a ride that costs people $1000 to get to the emergency room. I can't wait for Marcason to vacate that seat...she has been a huge disappointment to progressives.

  21. Maybe, 9:25. And maybe not. The only way to know would be to put the question on an unrigged ballot and let everyone know how much the additional taxes would cost, emphasizing that a special assessment is not tax deductible.

  22. 10:43 free ambulance as a city service is never free. Cities that have free service pay higher taxes for that service and generally have a much higher tax base than KC. Property owners would be paying much higher taxes for it and renters would be the ones using it most of the time. How is that fair?
