Our least favorite Latina token has once again decided to spew forth talking points rather than develop any real opinion of her own . . . Which is kinda sad for an opinion columnist . . .
Here's her latest opus:
Mary Sanchez: Loose gun laws arm bad guys as well as good guys
In this column she rants against Kansas City Open Carry gun rights that were the subject of AN ILLEGAL CRACKDOWN BY MAYOR SLY AND CITY COUNCIL THIS WEEK . . .
She repeats the standard line from police who want to ban open carry . . . Sadly, her column doesn't recognize that police HAVE ALSO BEEN WRONG ON PERSONAL LIBERTY ISSUES LIKE THEIR ENDORSEMENT OF ILLEGAL RED LIGHT CAMERAS THAT WERE STRUCK DOWN BY THE MISSOURI SUPREME COURT . . . Of course police have the right to advocate their position, but they're record on local civil liberty issues as of late isn't so hot.
Meanwhile, the Mayor's folksy analogies and anti-gun strategy does nothing less than remain willfully ignorant of Missouri law.
Precedent that proves this point: Gun control laws in Washington D.C. related to the open carry of handguns have been ruled unconstitutional by a judge and gun rights have been restored in the near term.
Even worse and here's a question that neither pundits nor politicos have bothered to answer . . .
WHAT IS IT ABOUT URBAN CORE POPULATION DENSITY THAT VOIDS GUN RIGHTS AND THE 2ND AMENDMENT??? IS THERE SOME CLAUSE IN THE CONSTITUTION THAT SAYS URBAN CORE DENIZENS AREN'T ALLOWED THE SAME, EQUAL GUN RIGHTS AS THEIR RURAL COUNTERPARTS!!!
Moreover . . .
MAYOR SLY IS DOING NOTHING LESS THAN STRIPPING AWAY THE GUN RIGHTS OF THE MINORITY AND URBAN CORE COMMUNITY!!!
NO, I don't plan on practicing "open carry" now or any time in the future . . . But having a politico STEAL AWAY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO LEGAL STANDING IS NOTHING LESS THAN CRIMINAL . . . With this move Mayor Sly and the City Council are attacking the Bill of Rights and with little or not benefit to public safety.
Real talk . . . There's really just a small handful of "Open Carry" enthusiasts in Kansas City who meet regularly in public places and cause a bit of a stir but PRESENT ABSOLUTELY NO DANGER to local residents. The overwhelming majority of locals who practice "open carry" are law abiding and contentious gun owners.
Finally, recent history also shows us that gun rights crackdowns have made urban core communities MORE VIOLENT and this attack against lawful gun owners is simply part of the misguided public relations style of governance that has exemplified the current era of City Hall politics. When this measure is overturned, Mayor and Council should not only be ashamed of their dangerous legislation but also apologize to the residents of Kansas City for attacking their freedoms rather than fighting crime.

ReplyDeleteMuch to do about nothing from both sides. I have guns, don't carry them but if I deemed it necessary I would get a concealed carry permit. Anyone in KCMO who openly carries a gun is in more danger of being shot by a cop than a bad guy.

In the mean time folks need to actively work to get SLY and his cronies out of office at the next election. There has been enough public apathy and this is what happens because of it. Then we go after the pussy fucking police chief.
ReplyDeleteAlso remember that this ordinance has absolutely no effect on the FACT that you can legally carry a fully loaded pistol or rifle in your vehicle while traveling anywhere in the state. I keep mine in open view on my car seat while driving. Go ahead SLY baby make my day.

Ms. Sanchez resists the idea that criminals will violate existing gun laws, yet simultaneously proclaims that those with drug/gang affiliations are eager to "pack heat" in Kansas City!
Note to Ms. Sanchez-----since you're taking both sides of the argument, why don't you debate yourself?
And this brings up, perhaps, Ms. Sanchez' worst flaw, which is a lack of reasoning. She's a bleeding heart liberal, a compassionate female with urges to save everyone and everything. Yet, at her core, she lacks confidence and conviction, running with her finger outstretched, constantly seeking to tap into the prevalent liberal viewpoint so as to not run afoul of consensus.
Yep, I wish I could remember when a KC bank, liquor store or street robber carried openly, but I doubt Forte or Sly can either.
