"The fight happened on Wednesday afternoon on Route 24 near the corner of Independence Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue. One of the passengers struck another passenger six times in the head in six seconds . . . Witnesses said they thought the two passengers were drunk."

The state needs to go to a scan stripe on state ID's and licenses for a myriad of reasons including this one. Require state ID to ride the bus, scan each passenger as they get on. Any shit and they are barred from using public transit. Makes no sense that we spend billions protecting Amtrak and Airlines from crime and terrorism and the most used transit system in our cities has no security whatsoever.

ReplyDeleteWell, the 24 runs along the proposed Independence Avenue streetcar extension that we just defeated. So this could have been on the streetcar. Until this city has a strategy for humanely removing the homeless from the streets and reducing urban core crime by providing better educational options for the youth, this is the type of environment that we are fostering, and in no way does it strengthen our urban core.

ReplyDeleteI am 78 yo white man with extremely limited mobility whose only transportation is the KCATA. The Bus operators are as scary as the passengers. Most of the operators are Black and actually try to injure white passengers with mobility problems by Jack Rabbit starts before the passenger can get to a hand rail. I have seen the operators laugh and comment to other passengers DAMN I MISSED AGAIN
