There's an interesting bit of political gamesmanship going on in Kansas City's urban core amid the upcoming Aug. 5th election.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY COMMUNITY INSIDERS NOTE EMERGING CONTENDERS 'WE THE PEOPLE' PUTTING FORWARD THEIR OWN SLATE OF CANDIDATES!!!

Now, what's important here is that this election we DIDN'T SEE MO State Rep. Brandon Ellington on the Freedom, Inc. ballot that we posted previously.
That's a shame because Rep. Ellington is one of the most independent and forward thinking legislators representing Kansas City.
It's also interesting to notice that We The People picks Sherwood Smith over Frank White . . .
Now, it's important remember this is an upstart PAC that was only formed this June . . . Still, during this election cycle we're seeing just a bit of community push agasint the reign of Freedom, Inc. as the preeminent political powerhouse of Kansas City's East side that has dominated for 50 years and counting.

ReplyDeleteThis committee is NOT filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission. Also, the disclaimer on the posted piece of literature does not have the name of the Treasurer, as required by law. If the committee was "filed" in June, a financial disclosure should have been filed by July 15th, with a June 30th cut-off. Violation after violation of the law. You would think a "law making" State Representative would know these things.

What about the money that was on literature that was mailed out previously ststing paid for Beatty campaign that was never reported in her failings?What about the number of people that are reports that never received payment?

ReplyDeleteThere can be no doubt Freedom, Inc. is a carcinogenic catalyst to the decay of the Urban Core. It is a group of self-proclaimed "leaders" (of what and who -- is unknown) who have destroyed the opportunity for a decent way of life for hardworking people in the 3rd & 5th District. Many of these alleged leaders do not themselves in the areas which they have targeted; and have only targeted these areas in the name of Black progress while providing the opposite. Kansas City spans over 300 sq miles of area. They are only known in areas where Blacks are highly concentrated. They have no presence in Raytown, Blue Springs, Lees Summit, North Kansas City or any other part of town. This whole Black progress idea is at least 40 years old and this group approaches the topic with equally old ideas. They refuse to let go. They do not recognize that the world has changed. Freedom, Inc. teaches Black separatism because they have something to gain from the 'separate but equal philosophy'. That is, they remain in domination creating yet another layer of racial injustice.

Freedom, Inc. of yesteryear is not what is before us. Allegedly, it's some new and improved version but there is no evidence to support that notion. It's members include folks who are otherwise unemployable, aged out of the workforce and Black elitist. There is nothing that this group has undertaken that even remotely looks like Black progress.

My disdain for Freedom, Inc. is not an endorsement of this group. There are some candidates on this list who will undoubtedly get my vote.
ReplyDeleteShaheer Akhtab has been a champion for the community and he should be re-elected. Richard Spearman is a honorable man and should be elected. Both of these candidates have the ability to get elected without either a Freedom or People endorsement.
Sherwood Smith should win this election by a landslide. He deserves it. Concerning these other folks I am on the fence...

I am a member of Freedom Inc.we submitted him again this year it was the Leadership team including Adams that said in our membership meeting that Brandon Ellington, would never receive any support from Freedom. We were told not to put his signs in our yards but I have one on mine.
