Mayor Sly might still be very charming, he has a great smile but he lost big on charter changes and the spiking rate of taxation in this town has soured voters against his regime and exposed many of his fair weather friends to criticism. Sure, he's still popular than most politicos in Kansas City . . . But that's not saying much.

Labor and Union aficionados had high hopes for Sherwood Smith because he remains one of the most politically savvy and connected locals in all of Kansas City. But it's clear that Frank White name recognition and community volunteer status might have thwarted an otherwise slam dunk candidacy.
The Toy Train Phase Deux No Longer Enjoys Widespread Support With Phase Deux
Kansas City loved the streetcar as long as it wasn't open to voter scrutiny . . . Now it's clear that consultants, politicos and corporations comprise most of the cheering section for this costly local project based on FAILED tin-cup urbanism theory and not really about transit at all.
KSHB Worst To First Awakes Local TV News Investigative Inspiration
This year was the first time that local politicos started focusing more on TV coverage than newspaper lobbying. KSHB seems to be leading the way into a great many newsies moving away from "water cooler" reporting and toward more community coverage as newspaper's are less able to provide investigation.
Westport Renaissance KAPUT!!!
There was a dream that Westport would provide a "working-class" party district wherein locals could celebrate without all of the pretension of other more exclusive places. Now, beyond the midpoint of this year it seems that weekly fighting and confrontation have destroyed Westport good vibes and turned the place into just another dangerous Kansas City weekend hotspot.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, Westport has a liad-back vibe during the day but has always been a bubbling cauldron of violence after hours when the bars let out. Large fights have always broken out between locals, hipsters, college kids, whites, blacks, etc. (heck, when Johnny Dare's was still around, even the bikers got in on the mix). The only difference this time around is that the "darker" crowd has scared everyone else off, and now they're just fighting with each other. Give it a year or two, and the black kids will have moved on and we'll be back to the usual parade of jackasses brawling with each other.
Westport is full of niggers on the weekends. I'm a black man, but I'm not a nigger. I pay taxes and I don't have temp tags on my vehicle. Know the difference.
