TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SOUTH KANSAS CITY REAX RAGE OVER PROPOSED KCFD STATION 41 CLOSING FOR CERNER BIG TAX BREAK CAMPUS!!!

This morning there's we want to feature an important bit of Kansas City testimony that has implications for taxpayers throughout the metro.

To wit . . .

HERE'S A LOOK AT MORE REAX TO THE POTENTIAL CLOSING OF A KANSAS CITY FIRE STATION NEAR THE CERNER CAMPUS AT GREAT EXPENSE TO LOCAL TAXPAYERS AND PUBLIC SAFETY!!!

There's a lot of detail in this IMPORTANT 1ST PERSON TESTIMONY that signals the beginning of Kansas City push back against corporate interests dictating local policy.

Check it:

FIRE STATION 41

There is a lot of history on this one – this latest maneuver by Cerner and City Hall to tear down a four million plus facililty that is only eight years old has a lot of precedent to it – the fire department has been manhandled on this station from the very beginning.

Check around and you will discover that the station was never finished -it was supposed to have had a direct access onto a roundabout in the center of which would have been the first fountain in the then 6th District. These were fully funded for approximately one and one half million dollars. In fact it would have been the first fire station in the US to directly connect to a roundabout and the first fire station in the US situated on not one, but three national historic trails (Santa Fe, Oregon and California). The station architecture, with full community involvement, was modeled around the mission style of the Santa FeTrail to further build on the national history associated with this site.

Construction of the roundabout and fountain was abruptly stopped because the Cerner folks back in 2007 decided the roundabout might interfere with their soccer stadium plan. Our validating engineering traffic studies to the contrary were just put in the trash can. Check a little deeper and you will discover that this half built station was never formally dedicated by the fire department for good reasons. I have all of the plans and drawings to fully document my statements should you care to view them. This station was funded from the same 3/8 ‘s sales tax that is now up for a 20 year renewal.

I have seen no information as to where the funds will come from for a tear down and rebuild – maybe from the same fire tax or other City monies, which means the taxpayers just paid twice for the same thing or the Cerner TIF which means the bulk of the funds will come out of the taxes captured from the Hickman Mills School District which is already going to contribute 340 million to the Cerner project. For the sake of the south Kansas City community this matter should be fully disclosed and a lot of questions answered, especially the proposed funding - before the sales tax election. There just does not seem to be any control over these continuing tax giveaways to well healed developer/business interests – in this case the community is losing a public Hillcrest Road and its signature fire station to a closed private tax subsidized campus for Cerner and so far the only thing it may get in return is a State parole processing center in nearby Loma Vista shopping center. Something is very much out of balance in this picture.

  1. KC's priorities are totally screwed up. We need better leadership.

  2. Cerner is owned by greedy fat fucks, but building a fire station on a roundabout and with a fountain. Are you fucking kidding me? The fire dept is as bad or worse.

  3. Fucking brilliant !

  4. Maybe they could house the trucks at the nearby Price Chopper.

  5. On day, we bitch about lazy ass fire fighters who rarely have to encounter a structure fire in 2014, then we bitch that we will lose public safety by not constructing a palatial public building.

Has anyone here ever seen a real structure fire in their neighborhood.?

Perhaps the real agenda, is simply bitching about EVERYTHING?

Now I feel the dumb ass for taking the fat Tony bait.

Tony and his 2 dozen gripers ever have a positive moment?

  6. Why wouldn't they want the fire station to stay? They would actually have a good response time in an emergency.

  7. Ask John Sharp about this. Councilman for Cerner and Burns & Mac. Vote NO on all city issues.

Uh oh, does this mean that more bulk mailings are coming with flatlining EKGs and stock photo grandmas not being reached in time?

  9. To 8:15, you have obviously forgotten that the City (in all their wisdom) decided to no longer simply have fire stations. If there is a medical emergency help will also come out of that same building

  10. All the money available will go to the streetcar. There will be no money to rebuild or reconstruct anything.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The bigger issue is the city seems bent on building lavish government buildings and subsidizing huge business complexes hoping that it somehow revitalizes a crime infested neighborhood of single moms, drug dealing baby daddies and old folks barely getting by on social security.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is why we should vote down the fire tax and have it changed so funds will only go to fire use,not downtown TIF'S.

  13. Good Ol' KC. Where the devils are always in the details.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good old Cerner, where drunken Neil Patterson rules with an iron hand over the recent excreta of silo colleges.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The problem with Hickman Mills is that the city continues to subsidize anyone who comes along with pie in the sky promises. There are 4 TIFs between 71 highway and Hillcrest Road. There is no tax base left and the companies with all the tax breaks have done nothing for the community.

  16. Word to the wise:

Don't tear down the Hillcrest Rd. fire station UNTIL the Cerner campus construction is well under way.

FACT: The Cerner project is likely to be delayed or never fully built out due to the coming economic depression. It would be a pity to tear down the fire station in advance, and then never have the Cerner project completed.

  17. Cerner knows greed rules city halls. They have plenty of cash and perks to spread around to get their way. In KCK, notice that Brownback is their new mouth piece?

10:09 is speaking the truth. Feds have created a false economy. Around election time, it's all smoke and mirrors. Growth is negative and cities financial ratings (like KCK) are a few steps from bankruptcy. But, what do you see...another shining circus act to be built for Cerner with public funding.

Fire stations and firefighters are enemies of city halls. It's happening in KCK. Mark H. and Sly hate them because they cost money. Building monuments to support their egos requires money and so it goes.

  18. Ditto the comments at 8:25, 9:55, and 10:09.

Call them "process issues", "due process", "good governance" or whatever...

It all goes out the window when someone with money comes along. All bow down before them, believing they will save us and we dare not question their desires.

Then the promises fall through and the whole process starts again.

I'm writing to city hall to see about finding funding for 100 GoPro cameras to be worn by young eastside youths... to better gain an understanding of the daily travails that their daily life entails.

Capturing this urban milieu will be pivotal for further enlightenment and understanding of the problem.

  20. Just another Troy Schulte "creative financing" turd. Why is this fucking guy still city manager?

    HILARIOUS!!!!!

I'm afraid there are some who will actually attempt to implement your idea, they'll call it "One Day In The Life Of An Urban Scholar."

Mayor SLie will tout the progress he's making with youth.

Congressman Cleaver will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Cleaver Boulevard to award the cameras.

Attorney General Holder will take credit for challenging urban youth to stay connected with their community.

President Obama will proclaim, "if you like your GoPro camera, you can keep your GoPro camera!"

  27. You dumbshits need to wiseup. Cerner is a miracle... a monster business for this region with huge income from all over the world which will flow though 20K+ employees (averaging 75K a year)into the local economy. Patterson and Illig are taskmasters extrordenaire and have their critics because of it, but they've committed to this region and EVERYONE is better for it. They could take their toys and their jets (reportedly now 6 of them at DT airport)and go to the coast but they continue to re-invest here. If they don't want a Fire Station out there BFD!
