TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER BILL OF RIGHTS BEGS THE QUESTION: WHAT CAN OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY ADD TO THE LIST?!?!

Kansas City Mayor Sly James has raised taxes on this town more than half a dozen times and new levies keep arising with every election.

However, this blog is FIRST to note a sad bit of local political pandering going into election week . . .

CELEBRATE AN UPCOMING "KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER BILL OR RIGHTS" RESOLUTION!!!

Resolution #140540 is so lame that NOBODY wanted to put their name on it as a sponsor . . . Which kinda contradicts the whole point of the thing.

Here's the upcoming list of wishful thinking @ 12th & Oak . . .

KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER BILL OF RIGHTS

That the City Council hereby adopts a City of Kansas City Taxpayer Bill of Rights which includes:

1. The Right to Be Informed

2. The Right to Quality Service

3. The Right to Pay No More than the Correct Amount Due

4. The Right to Appeal the City's Decision Pursuant to Law

5. The Right to Finality

6. The Right to Confidentiality as Required by Law or Ordinance

7. The Right to Retain Representation

8. The Right to a Fair and Just Tax System
############

Not sure, but I'm guessing that the e-tax violates half of these items.

Now, 8 is an odd number and not nearly enough for this list. Accordingly . . .

PLEASE ADD A FEW MORE SUGGESTIONS TO THIS KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER BILL OF RIGHTS THAT MIGHT HELP MAYOR SLY AND COUNCIL!!!

Some bloggy recommendations might be important if only because this move reveals that they've lost touch with reality inside Council Chambers if ANYBODY believes this bit of happy talk will convince voters and taxpayers who have been the victims of constant deception.

  13. 4:32- Do you mean that what you want is for all elected representatives to have the same opinion as you - typical loud-mouthed, uninformed teabagger non-logic. Studies repeatedly show that more than half of the people in this country believe in equal rights for all, womens' right to choose, and would even pay higher taxes for better services. The people that are in office were put there by the people - just because you don't like it, you cry foul.

This is such a waste of time. we have bill of rights under Missouri law... its call the Missouri Constitution Art. I. Sly James had done virtually any and everything he can do to circumvent freedoms of the people in Kansas City. He is absolutely the WORST MAYOR ever. Must worse than Kwame Kilpatrick or Ray Nagin, combined.

I hate how Obama is turning America into the dumping ground for all the world's undesirables. I hate how you libtards want to regulate everything in my life from the lights in my house to the type of toilet I have. I hate, I hate you libtards and your lies.

  22. This Bill of Rights prop blindsided the KC council, it was submitted by the city staff. At a meeting tonight Jan M. told me that it was proposed by "staff that go to conventions and are always looking for ways to make our city better" or words to that effect. She said that it "is modeled on the IRS Bill of Taxpayer Rights" and that it would be voted on tomorrow. The other 5 members basically looked at the table in front of them. Except for Scott W. who had to leave early for a streetcar meeting instead of listening to the people who elected him.

I may be wrong, but by their body language tonight, maybe they can see that there are a lot more people like us than "the people in the know" told them. It might even be a blessing to those that are term limited to get out while the gettings good. At least they don't have to be humiliated by the new broom that is coming.

  23. I thought we already had those rights? So they they will pat themselves on the back and say, "oh I am a good councilmember".

  24. Let me tell you how it works if you are accused of not paying city E tax. You get a subpoena along with 200 others to show up to court on a set day. On that day anyone who does not show up has an automatic judgement against them. If you do show up you wait all day until your case is called. Then when your case is called they schedule another date to have your case heard.

I envision a day with all God's children, black, white, yellow and red, with be able to ride the streetcar those two miles in downtown KCMO. I have seen it from the mountaintop. I may not get there with you, but save me a seat just in case I do.
