SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CALL OUT DEAD TREE MEDIA FOR PROMOTING THE TOY TRAIN TAX INSTEAD OF PUBLIC SAFETY!!!

Nowadays Kansas City is finding fewer reasons to check out all of Star and most of their out-of-the-loop columnists spend most of their words pushing the agenda of politicos who promise jobs after the inevitable big layoff.

Still . . . There's growing push back among Kansas City's civic leaders to The Star's allegiance to Mayor Sly's foolhardy toy train agenda.

Let's review . . .

The Star recommends a YES vote on the Missouri Transportation Tax that provides a bunch of toy train cash. And then . . . The Star approves of another toy train streetcar TDD levy that should spike local sales taxes to near record levels.

However . . .

When it comes to public safety . . . Star: Vote ‘no’ on Kansas City fire tax renewal

So, let's get this straight . . .

As Kansas City is closing fire stations and outsourcing KCFD workers . . . Dead Tree Media suggests locals spend tax cash on toy train streetcars!!! WTF???

While, TKC is content to believe that most of the editorial board @ Dead Tree Media is smoking crack while hoping that Dave Helling is the next big paycheck sacrificed and not them . . . A KC Insider offers a better perspective . . .

"This is nothing but The Star trying desperately to stay relevant. They're pushing the Mayor's agenda because that access is the only real advantage they have left. Clearly, the editorial board (Yael) has very little care for the best interests of this city. They've NEVER failed to back a public safety tax but as their circulation and advertising numbers fall, they're simply trying to be provocative and attacking the firefighters at the Mayor's behest."

This does a lot to explain Dead Tree Media tactics amid more layoffs, most of their talent jumping ship AND another Hoopz column on the way.

Developing . . .

  1. Tax and spend KC might want to consider cutting of city hall for the time being.

  2. Your "tipster" makes a good point. How can you claim this street car is good policy? It has ZERO proven benefits.

And unfortunately, here we go again, cutting basic services for frill programs. Why is the city in the business of building trains? That's private enterprise's job. The city should do basic stuff like public safety. Nobody can seem to figure this out. It's all backwards.

  3. I'd like to see an audit the Fire Department's spending of this "Public Safety" tax.

  4. Put firemen on the streetcar! Problem solved.

  5. What a. Joke the paper has became they should change tier name to Yellow Sheet.

  6. As long as the residents of KCMO continue to elect people to the city council who, not only have very little idea of what serving on a governing body means or what cities are actually responsible for doing, but have even less interest in finding out, nothing much is going to change.
You end up with empty-headed amateur "developers" who are easy pickings for every salesman with a "big idea" who comes rolling into town.
Which is perfect for the swells who look at city hall as little more than a publicaly-funded ATM machine they can use to their benefit at the taxpayers' expense,
And a quick look at the current crop of council candidates reveals the same old tired crap.
    Sly may be ban

  9. Playing with our Fire Dept is dangerous and stupid we want morale good so they are the best at their Job. Thanks Yael.

  10. Politics should be out of Public Safety

    ReplyDelete
  11. Quit buying the KC Star. Problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wonder if Yael will ever write a piece outlining the reason for his disdain and poison pen for firefighters.

Well the Star Staff for that matter too.

I would really like the rationale laid out in print.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 7:50: Mensa boy's gonna jump all over you. Actually these days taxpayers pay for transit--whether it's roads, buses or streetcars. The argument here is why build a streetcar when buses do the job better and cheaper? And of course, MB will jump in and say we shouldn't build roads, but I assume MB shops for groceries, and those don't get to the stores on streetcars.

I'm planning to vote "no" on everything. I would have voted "yes" for the state transportation tax, since I-70 really needs to be redone and widened, but this has become a bait-and-switch job, with most of KC's share going to the streetcar, or to put it another way, it will be wasted.

  14. Some cop or fireman must stole his girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know, maybe Yael sees that high-school educated grillmasters are already overpaid, and that there would be no problem finding cousins, sons, brothers of firefighters to do the jobs at a reasonable wage.

Also, he probably notices how the pensions are bankrupting the city.

Just a couple things he might be considering.

  16. It's sad when our local blogger does more research than the star editorial board.

  17. Jack Straw from Wichita7/15/14, 8:41 AM

Vote no on all these issues.

    Starve the city hall beast.

The fat has been cut from taxpayers' budgets for years... time to make them feel it.

If they can't prioritize the wheat from chaff with limited funds... then the next step is to vote the fuckers out and replace them with those who can.

  19. I have no doubt that the KC Star will be writing articles on "I'm having a baby with Zoloft from the planet wtf" before to long, it comes from compromising your moral compass, eventually you lose the people and then the ones you sold out too eventually jump ship as well. KCMO what a fucking joke you are.

  20. The Star is only 3 pages anymore to waste one of those on a vote no for public safety shows how far they have slipped.

    ReplyDelete
  21. When will the paper wake and refresh their editorial page with people who are not bought off by the likes of Nutter and Sly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fire Yael and get an objective reporter, Yael has become a liability to the Star because he is pursuing his own agenda to retain power.his editorials only mention subjects that are sold to him by much smarter political power brokers. The paper needs to change or keep losing customer.

  23. Don't Fire Him7/15/14, 9:19 AM

If you fire Yael no one will hire Glorioso ,he sell his connection to Yael every election.

  24. The Star is corrupt

    ReplyDelete
  25. You only have to look at the Stars success rate on issues to see how out of touch they are.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Star = Talentless Hacks
    KCFD = Greedy racist mobsters
    city Hall = Clueless

    ReplyDelete
  27. If you fire Yael he can go work directly for the Mayor, just like Hernandez.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Demanding accountability from the Fire Department? Demand that they fix the EMS problem they created? Demand that they don't use sales tax money, with a sunset, on personnel?

Naaaa, just give them more money. That'll fix everything.

  30. It isn't about the money it's about no accountability from a major newspaper who goes against the public safety of the City. If there is a misuse of a Money that a Mayor and Council problem vote against them. Don't burn Down the house to save it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Vote NO on all issues August 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No wonder they don't have money to fix the fire stations, they use it to pay off the TIF'S. Over $1.2 million in one year to pay off TIF.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Make em live within their budget as you have to do.

Vote NO on all the tax measures.

If you vote it they will spend it without accountability as they do now.

So if you are stupid voter you will give them more money to waste.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "...Don't burn Down the house to save it." 10:15AM

This has NOTHING to due with safety, and is nothing more than an attempt to save themselves from previous poor decisions. The City wants a 20-year renewal of the FD tax, which pays for salaries and debt service and not much else, yet dangles the hope of "upgraded equipment" and "new stations". It's BS and they know it. They very unwisely paid salaries out of this expiring sales tax and structured their debt to extend past the sunset on the tax. Now, their screwed without a renewal and have to choose between being on the ballot with all of the transportation taxes this year or the e-tax renewal next year.

    ReplyDelete
  35. A bunch of know it alls about taxes and tifs. You morons are on a blog that only us idiots read. The important people could give 2 shits on what you or I believe in. Get a job you minions! I couldn't give a damn about a hepatitis train. I'd rather have cops and firemen happy about serving the city. Piss off cops and firemen and this shitty city gets shittier!

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Piss off cops and firemen and this shitty city gets shittier!"

Hell, in that case, let's just go for a 5-cent sales tax and cut each member of the department a check for $25,000. Damn fiscal responsibility, if it has to do with the PD or FD, we need to blindly hand over money lest "they get pissed off".

Just another variation of the "...but what about the children" argument. Man, the FD is out in force on TKC today. Must not be much going on at the firehouse.

    ReplyDelete
  37. All the bureaucrats (yes the firemen and cops are also bureaucrats slurping at the public tax trough.) are sellin their bullshit to get you to vote yes to fund their special interest.

Vote for them and fuck your pocketbook. That is the plea.

If you are stupid you will fund their shit and short change yours.

    1. Yeah fuck my pocket book on a .25 of a cent sales tax. Wow how broke are you that your budget is broken by a quarter cent. Really??

      Delete
  38. How do you con a voter into giving his hard earned money for a scam?

What transpires in the public mind to have them give more of their money to be wasted on all but better government service?

    Just don't make sense.

Are voters basically stupid and the blood sucking politicians and bureaucrats rely on it?

    ReplyDelete
  39. KC Star has promoted Public Safety but only in the most corrupt and dishonest way. They supported, promoted and were cheerleaders for City's East Patrol project. A good reason not to read anything put out by this group.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I subscribed to the Star for 15 years and finally quit when I decided I was tired of paying to be insulted by Hendricks and Sanchez. Let their beloved diversity pay their salaries. That goes for Diuguid, too. That talentless trio should be pay per click bloggers on about.com, not paid newspaper columnists.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 2:54 PM...that is alot of money for you to waste.

You can't account for my taxes now and want to fuck my pocketbook again then mock the voter.

Eat some more cook shack grub, get one of your double lifin gals to give you head, smoke a joint, play some cards, watch a game and then go back to bed little fireman.

    Don't peddle your bullshit here.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The quarter cent is just the start. The camel's nose under the tent. Just like the 375-vote starter line.

    ReplyDelete
  43. KC gonna $#^%& you, and there nothing you can do about it. Just watch.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Fail to see how these 2 things are related.

Then again, I'm not a fucking moron, so, probably not going to understand much of the clickbait and fake rage here.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fuck the Star ! Let the Bear be heard. FUCK THE STAR.

A Star endorsement is reason enough to vote against that fucking transportation rip off.

Fuck a bunch of BILLION DOLLAR Toy Train. Let the hoodies walk or ride the bus. Hell hipsters roll on skateboards, you know they won't ride it. That just leaves the "moon cricket" crowd.... you know damn well what that means too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Where did the precocious young fireman go?

Did he take my advice...shut up and go take a 500 dollar nap on the taxpayers dime.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1050, how is that cubicle you sit in 8 hrs. a day while you rub your little meat over the almost cute girl 2 cubicles over?! Why are you so jealous about firemen? Did your dream not come true when you quit high school thinking you could be a firefighter?! While you nod off at your empty desk and watch the clock because your life is so miserable, I'll be waking up from my 500 dollar nap and enjoy my job. So for that, try to get your GED and maybe you can get that sweet promotion where you actually get a phone at your desk.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You 5:41 PM are a pyrophobic narcaleptic fat ass suckin off the taxpayers and don't know the difference between a hux bar or a haligan tool.

Now I am workin my ass off to get the people to vote no on your self serving shit.

The only cubicle is yer tiny balls and mental expanse.
