TKC LATE NIGHT MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY PUNK ROCK GLORY DAYS WEBSITE!!!

Here's a Kansas City treat for admirers of local history, music and Midtown traditions . . .

KICK-ASS TKC READERS SENT US A NOTE ABOUT THE "BENT EDGE" WEBSITE DEDICATED TO THE OLD SCHOOL KANSAS CITY PUNK ROCK SCENE!!!

It really is a FANTASTIC collection of flyers, pix and memories:

www.bentedgekcpunk.com

Better than the current epoch of corproate Internets get-rich-quick-schemes these days of local creative expression produced some local art and talent that still endures.

The note:

"A friend of mine has put together a website about the punk rock days in Kansas City (the 80s were so cool here). I thought you might be interested in looking at the way things were back then. You would have been too young to go, but these were my high school days and it brings back great memories."

Maybe a bit before my time but truly APPRECIATED tonight.

Hopefully, we'll have more BREAKING/EXCLUSIVE NEWS, discussion, debate, discourse, our share of hateration and lots of good stuff coming up in just a bit . . . STAY TUNED!!!

  2. Great to see those flyers again. Midtown was much more fun then.
The "scene" was small. No suburban kids. Hipsters now would not believe how cool things were.

  4. Those were great times. I saw Black Flag, Toxic Reasons, 45 Grave, Frightwig, Mortal Micronauts, Guardrails, EMF, Yard Apes, Sinclairs, Catholic Abortions, Orange DoNutz among many others. The VFW was such an interesting place to see shows. Punk kids mixing it up with the veterans at the bar.

I can still smell the clove cigarettes.

Lots of these people are still with us - and as we are all in our late 40s and early 50s, it is fun to relive these times through this website.

  5. Well guys. I started 2 fan pages on Twitter @KCOrangeDoughnu for the ODs and @MollyRingwurm for MxRx and got zero interest from the city of KC so far. Both of these bands were pretty popular when it counted about 30 years ago. Let's see, if people get involved at least recognizing these bands today. Not holding my breath.
