Here's an important round-up of where we stand on the Kansas City Toy Trains streetcar road to nowhere . . .
Show-Me Blog: Don’t Forget the Streetcar is Bad Policy
As of late, this Kansas City Terror Train has been an embarrassment for just about everybody and Mayor Sly was caught incorrectly blaming the feds for what might be an illegal campaign strategy . . .
Tragically, Kansas City Insiders remind us that playing the "blame game" and pinning local mistakes on the Feds is a common local government tactic.
Remember: The city also blamed Washington for the traffic light debacle a while back when removing stop signs from urban core streets.
In local neighborhoods the decision went over horribly . . . Probably in much the same way that Kansas City politico obsession with the toy train above all other local priorities is going over right now.
Developing . . .
Need a picture of the instant gratification crowd struggling to pay the bills and stay afloat 20 or 30 years from now as a result of their voting the wrong way - making an ill advised decision on this boondoggle.
ReplyDeleteHow's it going with all those self sustaining overbuilt roads and highways to no where you subrubes have shackles the taxpayers to?
DeleteAre we about to have to jack up the biggest sales tax in state history to prop up the toy highway boondoggle?
Just the idea they are promoting cable cars in 2014 is hideous enough to loosen ones bowels thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteNeed another picture that shows how many beers, barbecues, tattoos, and Chiefs tickets you could afford with the savings.
ReplyDeleteI don't know is KC er I mean CK even worth fighting for or trying to save at this point?
ReplyDelete"Tourist Fru Fru..."
ReplyDeletePension underfunding and the P & L District probably already doomed CK but the streetcar will hasten the bankruptcy filing.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar lemmings have been running over the cliff for quite some time now, and there's no turning back.
ReplyDeleteTens of millions already gone with hundreds of millions to be wasted for decades.
And all due to empty-headed elected folks put in office by a minority of registered voters and who don't have the knowledge or common sense to not be stampeded into such a folly by the crowd of self-serving companies and individuals who convinced them that, if they don't have a streetcar, they'll "be left behind". And all sarted with the clever votes of just 375 residents, mostly renters.
The hundreds of millions from KCMO residents that are have been committed to this fiasco will be taken home by people with no responsiblities for the health of the community and individuals who most people in KC will never even know the names of.
A publicly-funded ATM machine for other people's dreams.
wait till 2016 when the "E" tax is voted out
ReplyDeleteWish we could do it sonner
DeleteSooner !
DeleteP&L would have been a rousing success if not for that darned economic slowdown.
ReplyDeleteNobody could have predicted that there would be a day when 22 year olds couldn't afford $8 beers 4 nights a week.
Same kind of bad luck with 18th and Vine... jazz in the hood is making a comeback pretty quick!
Luckily, the streetcar fixes both of these areas' problems!
Can't they build a COMP USA on the toy train route. Oh wait there are no more COMP USA's I forgot!
ReplyDeleteDo the Feds require that dunk a streetcar worker novelty booth in order to qualify for the "free" cash?
ReplyDeleteThe computer boom went down the tubes 14 years ago 10:50.
ReplyDeleteThe toy train will have a half life of that if it's lucky before it grinds to a halt.
BREAKING!!! I'M BACK ON THE SHOW ME INSTITUTE PAYROLL!!!
ReplyDeleteMensa boy's back! And he's had his caps lock key repaired! Oh, yippee!

It's really George Bush at fault.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar is really necessary so that the Amish can get from their lofts downtown to the Plaza without riding on rubber tired vehicles.
ReplyDeleteAs the guys with no teeth in the back woods of the Ozarks say --- a man has to have awful short legs to step on his own dick.
ReplyDeleteExhibit #1, his Royal Slyness.
Mayor Sly was caught incorrectly blaming the feds for what might be an illegal campaign strategy . . .
ReplyDeleteHe is a liar. Simple.
1:25 PM LOLZ
ReplyDeleteTake another toke Mensa boy. You'll make more sense.
ReplyDeleteThe bus system in the metro is a joke and needs to be shut down. The toy train is too little for the city. We need real public transportation.
ReplyDeleteThe only solution is to dump the Mayor and council and put together a citizens pannel to figure it out. This city won't grow without good public transportation. We can't afford to keep building road, soon our air will be as bad as LA's.
Kansas City need critical thinker not publicity seeking money wasters.
To have any serious metro public transportation system, you'll need bi-state and multi-jurisdictional cooperation and there isn't a single elected official in any of the other 115 municipalities in the metro that wants to have anything to do with the clown show in KCMO.
ReplyDeleteWhat the folks at 12th and Oak think is pulling one clever scam after another over on KCMO residents, any serious councils and mayors view as the amateur insider crap that it really is.
What's clear is that if you shake hands with Sly and the gang, wyou;d better count your fingers.
Some serious leadership is needed to move the metro ahead and instead we get All Star Games, GOP Conventions, rah rah, and a streetcar.
And the rest of the metro, where 83% of area residents actually live, watches in amusement and disbelief.
