Helling Has A Cynical Kansas City Epiphany

Dave Helling writes up harsh times for politicos from Kansas City on up: In economics and politics, talk is cheap

  1. The problem is that it is not the economy, but the declining value of the dollar and the average American's standard of living that is at issue. At one time good economy meant good for everyone, but in todays world of 10 million dollar fast food CEO's a great economy. high stock volume and high gross national product does not equal a decent quality of living for middle class Americans. Unless the benefits of these wonderful financial reports reach the average American nothing is getting better. Touting the fact that for decades we have preached the importance of education while decreasing wages to their lowest point in decades does not equate to good news for Americans. The idea that we tough jobs recovers while those previously working for $70K a year are settling for $12.00 an hour jobs is not good news for Americans. It's tie to knock of the semantics bullshit and get real about the fact that middle class America is in the shitter and NO ONE is doing shit to fix it.

  2. Partial credit to Mr. Helling for:

"If Obama talking about the economy actually helped the economy, we’d be at full employment and growing at a 5 percent clip.

We are not. Six years after the start of a deep recession, the American economy still feels sluggish, with wages stalled and unemployment stubbornly high."

The remaining credits are withheld because Mr. Helling dares not venture beyond cynicism, into the abyss of reality. Yes, I speak of the reality which rarely gets mentioned in public......the reality that when it comes to government, finance, and rule of law, things don't work the way you've been led to believe. Beyond the local level, this country operates as a criminal enterprise. Those with money, power and influence conspire to enrich themselves and their partners with little regard for "the law" or respect for others. What's actually amazing is that so many citizens accept the status quo, believe in this false reality, and continually accept the abuse of their "leaders."

  3. Maybe Tony just wanted to use a big word. That doesn't strike me as an 'epiphany.' It's just conventional thinking on a slow news day.
