Mariner Kemper has already made his decision and Kansas City politicos are signing on to pay the tab behind the scenes.
Still, this is an interesting idea . . .
Take a look at the eKemper plan to turn the place into a giant video game facility.
Not many deets but here's one:
"While proposed new uses could do much to improve the area, this idea, to revitalize into an eSports venue and community, is the forward-thinking that the structure deserves and was designed for. The culmination will offer a focal point for the ever-growing, gaming population of the nation and light a spark in the center of the country."
A video game hub is kind of unique . . . Even if I'm pretty sure most gamers are located in their mom's basement and averse to sunlight, very much like bloggers . . .
Developing . . .
Introduction Date: 7/6/2014 – Reducing additional appropriations in the 2013A Water Bond Fund and the 2012 Sanitary Sewer Revenue Bond Fund in the total amount of another $23,683,540.07; appropriating that amount to the eSports account; and recognizing an emergency.

Um, don't think so.
ReplyDeleteCool, long as tax payers aren't paying for it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for the 90's.
ReplyDeleteThe eSports community has been growing wildly, and shows no signs of stopping.
DeleteJust recently the Dota 2 championship (with a prize pool of more than 10 million) gained massive attention, including with ESPN who steamed the championship.
eSports is a pretty big thing. It is only expected to grow.
me likey. espn picked up the video game world championships of Dota 2. The arena and hotels surrounding were sold out from travelers for 4 days. valve currently streams peoples video game play and you would not believe the number of hits it gets. believe it or not it is a huge emerging market that already has a huge base. probably a better idea for the west coast, as it is closer to asia, but definitely thinking outside the box. and it shouldn't just be dismissed as fodder
ReplyDeletecould you imagine if kansas city had this? if they could land the world championships of just 3 of the 10 largest game championships, it would be like having 3 comi cons in kc. huge revenue.
ReplyDeletewatch out jerry jones.

ReplyDelete3:34 - that's no sarcasm. This is one ugly bitch of a building, and it needs to be torn down. To make room for more architects from K-State who think they are really sumpin sumpin.
