TKC TOLD YOU SO: Many Southwest Parents Oppose Kansas City Frenchy Charter School Gentrification Against Minority Scholars

Given that Kansas City Public Schools are cursed . . . Even starting over from a "rape campus" is fraught with peril and community objection, remember we noted as much last week: Southwest parents bare concerns over KC district’s plan with Academie Lafayette

  1. There's not much to defend about this place. If they really wanted to do everyone a favor. They would burn it down.

  2. I love it how mama admits her lil' tyrone couldn't pass any sort of achievement test for the Lafayette school.

HOW LOW MUST THE BAR BE TO BE ADMITTED INTO A KCMO MAGNET OR CHARTER?

Not exactly the Phillips Exeter Academy Scholarship Aptitude test.

  3. If "the community" spent more time on character and behavior issues and a whole lot less on meddling in the schools, both the community and the schools would be in much better shape.
Performance standards in these schools and in the workplace, for that matter, are mostly gone, and even standards of basic decent public behavior are well on their way to being waived by the rest of society.
And both replaced by endless excuses and demands.
Let's hope the KCPS board has the guts to look after the hard-working good kids for once and don't fold with the same tired crap that has lost generations of young people.

  4. It is hilarious that the only way KCMO can have a functioning school is to teach all classes in a foreign language.

    Keep winning KCMO!

  5. Someone needs to introduce some basic facts to these folks:
Having a high school education and being able to read, do basic math, and express yourself so that others can understand you is not "gentrification".
It's having the most basic of abilities to survive in a 2014 world.
And it takes respecting yourself and others, hard work, discipline, and civil behavior.
6:38's right. That's what the parents and "community leaders" need to focus their attention on.

  6. Dumb down the SATs, don't check the box and pretty soon, you're living in Detroit and can't pay your water bill and need help from the UN.

    What a fuckin joke.

The reason Quineesha can't read, write or parse numbers is because the culture is preoccupied with equal outcomes by way of the knowledge that whining and bitching about "Race" pays off.

  8. Of course that kid wants to stay he has mastered the tape class.. What we need to teach is that life is not fair. Shit happens and move on.

  9. I'm with 6:05. Level it and sell the space for some cash which the city can't get enough of.

  10. What an educational system. A dozen low feeders on the school board with a wildly overpaid superintendent. They can't manage a medium sized school system so they outsourch a shitload of schools to corporate interest and damned if they still don't crash and burn. In the mean time the numb nuts tax payers watch their property taxes increase for this? Where the hell is the justice?

  11. The Polar Bear left for some reason...

Does he know something we don't?

Is the anonymous status not here anymore and he knew tracking and identifying bloggers was in effect?

    All seems odd.

  12. Not really gentrification if you consider SW sits in the middle of an upper middle class majority white neighborhood. In fact, until bussing, SW was a mostly white school, and I don't recall much rape and pillage back then.

  13. 12:56, Right you are. Not only was it a white school, but at one time, one of the best in the nation. Then comes bussing and we don't need to explain any more.

  16. Why does anyone really concerned with their child's education mess with the KC public schools? There are so many good suburban districts to choose from but you have to study and behave in many of them so maybe I just answered my own question.

  17. It always makes sense to separate the gifted children from the stupid children.
