The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ruled that business owners can object on religious grounds to a provision of President Barack Obama's healthcare law that requires closely held companies to provide health insurance that covers birth control."
There's a local angle to this case inasmuch as both Missouri and Kansas RED STATE politicos supported this challenge and now might feel vindicated. But more important than political reax is the realization that universal healthcare is still a faraway hope for change of whatever...

ReplyDeleteIt is a narrowly applied decision that applies only to birth control and only to companies that are owned by members of a single family. It does not apply to publicly traded companies so publicly traded companies cannot opt out of covering birth control. The Court used the RFRA for a point of reference and not the 1st Amendment as many seem to be claiming. The Court went so far to suggest that the government provide the expense for birth control. This isn't a great decision for liberals but it isn't exactly the decision that many conservatives think it is.

ReplyDeleteThe Greens/Hobby Lobby are not seeking to avoid providing health insurance. They gladly offer a comprehensive health plan that includes coverage for 16 of 20 FDA-approved contraceptives. The remaining four, which the Greens object to providing on the grounds that they may terminate life, are still readily available and their employees are free to obtain them. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday I feel has showed the people that Obama care isn't the great healthcare law that Obama and his goons think it is.

ReplyDeleteThat's not even close to what the question was in this case. The court was ruling on a very narrow part of the law. The Court used the RFRA as a standard to determine whether or not the government had to provide "closely held corporations" the same accommodations that they already provide to non-profits and religious organizations.

I chose the cheapest possible coverage. Mind you with $ 0 income for two years, the cheapest policy was $ 784.00 per month. This was using the Obamacare website.
ReplyDeleteMy friend, who makes $50,000 a year went thru a third party filer and he got better coverage for $150.00 per month. This first hand experience is a perfect example of how Obamacare is fucked up. They have no fucking idea and this is a giant fuck up.
If you follow the money....58 million NEW INSURANCE POLICIES will come to the insurers. That, my friends, is a lot of $$$$$$$. That is what Obamacare is all about ! $$$$$$$$$$$

Unless you mean the subsidies from the feds allow you to buy a plan that includes abortions and somehow you are perverting that into a "abortion requirement" which is a pretty fucking long stretch to "requiring".
