SHOCK!!! RETALIATION LAWSUIT COSTS KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS $500K!!!

Call this a tragic Sunday School lesson in the ongoing downward spiral of Kansas City Public Schools . . .

KSHB: KCPS loses wrongful termination lawsuit

Deets . . .

"A Jackson County jury awarded $500,000 to a former employee of the Kansas City Public Schools in a wrongful termination lawsuit that wrapped Friday.

Cary Newsome, KCPS' former purchasing director, won the lawsuit after convincing the jury he'd been terminated for his refusal to purchase three vehicles that would be used for employees' personal use within the district."

To be fair . . . There is a bit of good news to report and we HAVE FIRST WORD that there have been some very real test score advances as of late . . . But big money defeat almost makes more memorable headlines and what has really driven parents and their "scholars" away from the District more than anything else is the lack of confidence in the Administration over the years . . . A perception that some locals are still trying desperately to change.

  5. Welcome to Kansas City where if you refuse to break the law for your crooked boss you get fired.

  6. With all the financial nonsense that has taken place in KCPS over the years, you'd think the board would be holding the reins much tighter. Especially ater they approved a $34 million insider contract that would have gone through had it not been for the media.
The values and expectations of any organization start at the top, and it's apparent that the easy money mentality that has crippled the district for decades is still very much in evidence.
With this crowd, the kids ALWAYS come last.

  7. How do these fucking people get away with this shit?? Really, they do it every day and walk around like royalty. What is wrong with this picture and how the fuck do we fix it??

  8. So the grifters wanted some more free stuff but a person who actually is qualified for their job and doing their job gets fired for it? Good for him. Seems to me he proved his case. Now what do the superiors do to the defendants who lost the case? Sounds like they did what the plaintiff said they were doing, illegally at that. Sounds like some other people need to be fired. But since this is KCMO we're talking about I expect nothing to happen.

  9. Kcpsd better do what's right for the kids - more and more folks are demanding accountability, and this arrogant attitude by the administration is going to be exposed publically more and more.

  10. The administration of the KC SD has been abysmal for 40 years. Why would anybody think it is going to change?

  11. This was the Covington administration. The only thing we thought that he did that was good was getting the finances straight. We were wrong apparently. Now we are on the hook for 500k in a year we are making 15% cuts across the board. I really wish we could see a list of the people making 6 figures in this district.

  12. $500K would make Thacher marketable. I'd argue that $25K could clean that site up enough to sell it for fair market value.

  13. I'd pay 500k for an evening with Pam Kingsley. I'm talking the new jet black haired Pam. Not the old grey haired Pam.

  14. So glad the school district has to pay for what they did to this guy... Worked there almost 20 years... You'd think they would have known he would always do the right thing. Good for you, Cary!!! Best of luck in your new position, but you are missed in KCMO!!!!
