Jackson County Contender Sherwood Smith Announces Women's Empowerment Initiative With Former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes

Today's big Jackson County political event was a presser featuring Sherwood Smith and former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes talking about promoting women in local politics and civic life.

Earlier this week we asked in Mayor Kay would help the campaign of Mr. Smith and most of you didn't hold out much hope given the name recognition of Kansas City Royals Legend Frank White.

Mary Sanchez wrote about this on Sunday night and earned a grand total of 1 comment on the election tidbit . . .Meanwhile our TKC Blog Community analysis has been a bit more thoughtful and prolific.

The election dichotomy is simple: Sherwood Smith has shown voters that he has strong political connections with the ability to connect with insiders (like Sen. Claire McCaskill) all that way to D.C.

Meanwhile, Frank White's baseball campaign signs are probably the best we've seen  in nearly a decade and even TKC is not so cynical as to want one with the guy's autograph.

The wildcard here is that Frank White has a legacy of community and neighborhood activism whereas Sherwood Smith is a far more connected mover and shaker but unknown outside of the political realm.

Also . . . Everybody @ Jackson County is once again angry @ Exec Mike Sanders for playing both sides of this election . . . Aaaaaaaannnd Mr. Peanut's deep pockets could (as always) be the deciding factor.

Developing . . .

  2. where was Claire the hero of us disabled veterans when all the shit kicked off at the VA? the same place she was at during the settlement for the LeJeune NC poisonings? or the McClellan radiation tests done on both army and Marines back in the 70's? that no good welfare recipient has no shame at all .. we really should vote for her for the City Council .. she can move in with theresa and run for mayor!

  4. Frankly, I like Sherwood. But, he has trusted the wrong people in pushing him into this race. Callahan has "counseled" him into the race and to run a negative campaign as his "chance to win." Why? Because he and Garza don't want him running against her for city council, a race he could win, and they have convinced him instead to run head first into the brick wall of Frank White. Sherwood is being used by two people acting as his friend, but using him for their won agendas.

The kicker in all of this? Callahan is going all around organized labor circles telling everyone that will listen that Sherwood has no chance and is a "fool" for running and that we should save our money for ourselves. All while the is "helping" Sherwood with his campaign to his face. Sherwood, you are being played as a fool. He is too stupid or too naïve to get how they are screwing him so he is not viable for the city elections. Not sure what else to say.

  5. What an irrelevant pandering "issue" to introduce into a campaign for a county legislative seat.
There's no end to the list of aggrieved groups who somehow just haven't gotten their "fair share", but it seems unlikely that women haven't been playing major roles in the dysfunction of JaCo and KCMO government.
What does this clown plan to address to fix the mess in the courthouse? He could start with the assessor's office, but he doesn't know any more about that than anything else a county is supposed to do.
    Just another empty suit.

  7. In a initiative to help women, the candidate called on black men to start marrying the girls they knock up and actually care for them and the kids.

Frank White is a good, decent man of accomplishment.

    Sherwood is a professional negro.

  15. Frank White...Frank White...Frank White...make it right.

Sherwood deserves loss more than any black man in the Western Hemisphere.

He has done a ton of people wrong. Now it is his turn.

3:25 PM Sherwood likes being played. He has been Louie Wrights hand puppet for years. He is just looking for another lap jack Daddy.

  17. Vic has fucked Sherwood so badly that he will be toxic for anything in the future. I can't believe that Wood hasn't heard all of the nasty things Vic is now saying about him, so Vic can walk away from the soon to be train wreck like he was not involved. If he hasn't figured it out by now, he;s too stupid to serve.

  18. Any woman who knows Sherwood knows that he does not respect women. Just a campaign promise, nothing more.

  22. Sounds like someone is afraid that Sherwood will win.

  23. Sherwood has been played. It's too bad. He is a nice guy. Theresa has bluffed him out of her race and is now serving him up to Frank White. When will Teresa get hers.
