KCPD is once again out in full force on The Plaza tonight amid more than a bit of fighting and maybe even some intolerance.
KCPD Chief Forté offered tweets from the scene tonight in order to keep calm among Midtown KC denizens . . .
Here's a look at the crew keeping the Plaza safe tonight. Twitter statement: "Many supervisors and officers are committed to maintaining order on the Plaza every weekend."
Overall report from The Chief: Approximately 100-125 kids on the Plaza. Most are well-behaved and having fun. Heavy vehicle traffic. Only 2 incidents (fights).
Deets on that brawling . . .
Officers disrupted a fight when a 14 yr old girl allegedly assaulted 13 and 18 yr old. The 14 yr old is in police custody.
"Second fight of the evening involving female teenagers. Fifteen yr old detained for fighting. Being released to a parent."
The scene about 7 minutes ago . . .
About 25-30 juveniles are in Mill Creek Park at 46th & JC Nichols Pkwy.
But it goes beyond that . . .
Here's a quick statement from a lovely TKC TIPSTER about her problems this evening . . .
"We got back to our car in the Topsy's parking lot, and immediately noticed four (we assumed, because we weren't going to actually touch them) empty packs of menthol Kool's on the hood of our car. Parked next to us in Toyota beater were a couple of younger black teenage boys, who immediately avoided eye contact with us as soon as they saw we noticed the cigarette packs. Parked next to them in an old minivan were some older black teenage boys, windows rolled down talking to the kids in the Toyota. These guys weren't shy about staring right at us, then yelling as we drove off and the trash they left on our car went flying off. I hope it hit them!
We were just trying to have a nice night and some dinner with friends we haven't seen in awhile, but with the massive police presence everywhere (except the Topsy's parking lot, obviously) and the idiot kids leaving their trash on our vehicle, we ended up feeling like we were both in prison plus kind of violated at the same time. The fact that my husband is a well-educated HUGE black male and I am Asian probably saved us some trouble. Who knows what may have happened had one or both of us been white?"
And so, that's the look tonight at diversity, brawling and racial harmony (or lack thereof) in Kansas City tonight . . .

ReplyDeleteSuch a hullabaloo! We were having a celebratory dinner with our family's newest college graduate at a Plaza restaurant when my brother arrived. He had a minor confrontation with three young men in the parking lot. Luckily my brother is cool headed and very toned. The punks retreated.
Saw that Cristo Rey students were having Prom on Main Street. Hope they avoided the Plaza.

ReplyDeleteThat this is even necessary is proof positive that the feral shit residing mostly on the east side of KC is, and has been, out of fucking control for too long and will remain so as long as the politicians sidestep the truth. KC needs leaders with real vision, prosecutors that are prepared to punish accordingly, and a public that will no longer tolerate the politically-correct horseshit that is the status quo.

DeleteYeah, anywhere in Kansas City, MO is a big no-go for me after the noon hour anymore. The "bad element" starts rising from slumber 'round about then, and everything is miserable 'til about 3-4 am when they finally pass out for the.....day. My dad still lives in Raytown, basically as shitty as KC, and because his mortgage is paid on his tiny little house in what used to be an OK neighborhood several years ago, he won't move. Love the guy, but we make him come to our very nice house in all-white JoCo if he wants to visit.

ReplyDeleteThese kids are a direct representation of their parent(s). The only exception is that with each generation the I don’t give a f..k mentality gets worse. You see how the parents act in public and it’s not too hard to comprehend why they’re kids are “acting a fool”. In terms of how much money is expended on police chases, murder investigations, armed robberies, car jacking’s, shootings, residential and commercial theft, “giving the kids something to do”, “hot spots”, “18th and vine revitalization” and babysitting the Plaza … a better use of tax payer money would be to have KCMO PD form a line along Troost and man it 24 hrs. License checkpoints every other block that switch on the hour. Roving patrols for the rest of the city acting as QRFs (Quick Reaction Forces). It’s time to man up about what the problem really is. An entire area of this city is a cancer that no one in local, county and state government has been able to solve and in some cases care to solve. It’s not a “black” problem, it’s one of geography. It’s the same problem facing cities across America. Put too much crap into one hole and it overflows contaminating everything around it. Section 8 housing isn’t supporting “very low-income families”; it’s being occupied by entire family trees. I mean do the math. The city overwhelmingly expends more taxpayer money on this area directly and indirectly then it gets back. KCUR has a great series called Beyond Our Borders looking into demographics that TKC linked. I’d like to see a map of the cities’ tax payer base. My taxes basically go to a failing failed school district, keeping the crime and murder rate down to a quasi-livable level, and building things most residents don’t care for or have no use for. Meanwhile good luck keeping your car in alignment, getting to work when it snows, navigating road construction due to water main breaks, wondering what you’re going to do when your kids get old enough for school and generally being able to go places in this city without looking over your shoulder.
