LOCAL NEWS AFICIONADOS WANTED EVERYBODY TO SEE THIS ONE . . . CHECK THE MEMO INTERCEPTED BY THE FINEST TKC READERS

Colleagues:

I'm sorry to announce that June 6 will be Christine Vendel's last day at The Star. She's heading to Pennsylvania where she and her kids will rejoin her husband, Casey, who moved a few months ago to start a new job. Christine has landed a news reporting position in the Harrisburg area, and I'll leave it to her to share the details once she's able.

An intrepid police reporter, Christine's work has bolstered The Star for 21 years. Her accomplishments include an impressive record of breaking news scoops, touching victim profiles and hard-hitting investigative projects (last year's medical examiner project is just the latest example). Her legacy here is the enterprise stories she's been able to tell even as she was first with news day in and day out. Being a watchdog has been a priority for Christine, and it has been a tremendous service to our readers.

Please join us in wishing Christine and her family all the best in the Keystone State.

We'll be working to fill the KC police job as quickly as possible. Strong skills in breaking news, source development and watchdog/enterprise reporting will be essential. If you're interested, please contact me by Wednesday, June 4.

  2. Smart lady no doubt the up and coming exodus from CK's rapidly disintegrating Urban Core will be substantial.

  3. That's one way to curb the reporting on the horrific KCMO homicide problem.
Now the only information about murders will be coming from Alonzo, Aim4Peace flacks, and Forte's tweets.
    Mission accomplished!

  8. Just take a moment to look at the Oregonian's website....a city roughly the same size of KC. One paper looks like a high school class project and the other a real newspaper. Guess which is which.

  9. Great news story..Tony's ahead of the game..

Seems that this Gil Crockran thing was a crime that not just hit him but thousands of KC homeowners. Why didn't the local media report this..

The last time a news article was in the Star was Paul Weske report years back on sub-prime loans...

Saw Gils mortgage docs at Jackson Cty deeds. It was fraud alright. The guys house in KCMO at the same address showing him living in St. Louis.

This John Allinder as trustee. Allinders associated with Farmers Bank, Ameriquest Mortgage & some more questionable lenders that screwed homeowners.

The Star should do a story on this Gil mortgage and the incompetence of the judges who shuttled this fraud thru the courts .....Lots of folks milk ain't clean here...

The judges, foreclosure attorneys Benjamin Struby, and his partners in Leawood office for Millsap & Singer. If AlJezerra news breaks this story..Oh Boy

Lots of mortgage fraud crime resulted in several banks beaning picked clean..Hillcrest bank was no exception. Shame his house foreclosed on by fraud and the crooks get by scott free.

There's no way this should stand. and he be evicted for discovering this fraud and $1.3 million allegedly embezzled by folks involved with his loan.

  10. Oh that is not good.

  11. This will be an easy position to fill. Just look for someone who never really investigates anything and just echos what he/she is spoon fed by the PR folks downtown

  17. As one who has criticized the KC Falling Star often for the likes of Fael Abracadabra, Lewis DoGood, J. Osterizer, Baba Shyly, etc., I have nothing bad to say about Ms. Vendel.

I wish her well, and hope she's salvaged something ....anything ...from any McClatchy stock she's held.
