“Today, by some measures, our schools are as segregated as they were back when Dr. King gave his final speech,” Mrs. Obama told 1,200 graduating high school seniors Friday here in the city that gave rise to the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case.

In her evening address in Kansas, Michelle Obama urged young people to challenge racism when they encounter it and to do all they can to surround themselves with diversity.
“And that’s really my challenge to all of you today as you go forth — when you encounter folks who still hold the old prejudices because they’ve only been around folks like themselves, when you meet folks who think they know all the answers because they’ve never heard any other viewpoints, it’s up to you to help them see things differently,” she said.
She told students to “break through” barriers to talking honestly about race.

To achieve the goals of a Communist Utopia envisioned by her husband Comrade Barack, there must be struggle and since we cannot ferment one between economic classes the Party thought it was best to start one with race, since there is an economic component to race and thus, Comrade Barack was selected and he is doing a fine job in dividing America. He has done in just 6 years what the Party has been unable to do in 100 years in America. The black people are worse now under Comrade Barack than under any American president and there should be an uprising soon for Comrade Barack to institute martial law and begin the dictatorship of the proletariat. If we were a post racial society, she, her husband, all the assholes with Reverend in front of their names like Jackson, Sharpton, Brooks and Cleaver would have to get real jobs. Schools are segregated because that's how people want them to be. It isn't just white people who don't get along with black people. Nobody does, including, especially, themselves. Black people don't want anybody else around either. They are the biggest racists of anybody.

ReplyDeleteI agree, until the late 60s and 70s predominently black schools WERE unequal to 'white' ones. Americans have bused and integrated, pouring a lot of resources into education for blacks to equalize it... but now it starts to appear that it's the urban culture that's unequal, not the schools.
ReplyDeleteWhat part of that... whether diet, music, lack of fathers in the home, discipline, chronic poverty, anger, lack of jobs and transportation to get TO them, or all of those things?
I'm not sure. But something happens to kids in that culture around puberty and a great many of them lose interest in skill building and even maintstream English language. This is not to say that white kids don't have similar problems at that time... there are plenty of white sk8terboys and dopers... but it seems not to be so widespread.
What's the experience with black children whose families escape the ghetto, or white children who live IN it?
I can't believe sociologists haven't spend a lot of work on this, and publicized it, unless to study it has been deemed politically incorrect.
