ReplyDeleteI am disgusted by the guy's comments, and think it is poor judgment. I am not encouraged by the students' responses. I think he needs some serious sensitivity training (and so do all the kids, based on this article). But if he's fired, the kids will forever think that making these kinds of jokes is really cool. He will be a martyr for vulgarity, racism, and misogyny.
ReplyDeleteThis teacher should model good behavior, and not make racist and sexist remarks on a social media platform. I would imagine that he has broken some sort of contract; he should learn a valuable lesson that you must conform to and model tolerance and basic decency when you are a teacher, or face a job loss. Allowing this behavior just makes it seem acceptable, and that's a slippery slope that this school district should not start sliding down.
ReplyDeleteIt's natural for students to rally around a popular teacher. Don't take it as a sign of bad kids. The school district will have to be the bad guy and the kids will hopefully understand when they are older.
