Neighborhood fights back after city code sweep
"On April 13, developer John Hoffman, whose Urban Coeur Properties completed two houses in the neighborhood this year, wrote to several city officials including both 3rd district councils members and the assistant city manager asking for "some help from the city and public works."
Hoffman's email, a copy of which he provided to 41 Action News, mentioned one specific address, and several non-specific eyesores around the neighborhood including overgrown foliage and inoperable cars parked on lawns."
And then . . .
"Homeowners in the Longfellow neighborhood, targeted by a city code enforcement sweep last month, won at least a minor victory Monday night in a community meeting when Assistant City Manager John Wood and Councilman Jim Glover agreed to take their request to dismiss nearly 100 new cases to the city attorney on Tuesday."
Congratulations to this community on their EPIC efforts to push back on this developer and keep their neighborhood crappy. They are truly a TKC inspiration . . .

ReplyDeleteAfter going to the Urban Coeur Properties website, I lean toward saying the new houses are the true eyesore. Why build those stupid, modern box-looking things in such a nice, historic neighborhood? Bushes can be cut, cars moved, houses painted but a match and plenty of gas would be needed to fix those new houses. Why does KC allow crap like that to be built where it doesn't fit at all. And the price is laughable - you can get twice the square footage and a great school district in KC North.

They have been violating their own zoning codes by boarding property and failing to keep the grass mowed on nearly 16,000 vacant properties throughout Kansas City. Then, by doing this, claims that the neighborhood is blighted; fails to do any blight studies and then comdemns private property for an unproven public use. It's ridiculous the schemes the City employs to take private property in an unconstitutional and arbitrary way. This City is absolutely pathetic and the people who run the City, including its attorney's are the biggest joke around. Kansas City is looking more and more like Detroit, MI everyday. And for those who want the complainers to move... don't worry... I'm pack my shit as we speak!
