TKC Note: Yesterday we posted a missive regarding the influence of MO State. Sen. Paul LeVota and the piece elicited more reaction than we thought . . .
For a second, I tried to play reporter and get a comment on the story before it ran but I was pleasantly surprised that Sen. LeVota was busy . . . Which is rare for a politico.
Anyhoo . . . Here's some more insight on the story from another Kansas City Insider who provides additional deets.

Sen. Paul LeVota Probably Gonna Be Okay
For the record, Councilwoman Roxann Thorley was the democratic incumbent who was selected by the council to fill the term until April. Thorley was a political unknown with no previous experience but proved to be a good advocate in her six months on the council and gained labor's endorsement. She was challenged by republican dentist Scott Roberson who has lived in Independence for 60 years. Also on the ballot that day was his brother, insurance salesman Scott Roberson who was running for school board that he had served on for over 12 years on the ballot. Roberson had huge name recognition and it was obvious that it would be a tough re-election as Thorley had never run before. And in the days before the election Roberson dumped over $10,000 in negative mailers against Thorley.
So Roberson had name recognition and outspent Thorley, 3 to 1. That is the objective take away from that race. Senator LeVota endorsed her because he supported a labor endorsed democrat over a republican. LeVota did not donate money to her campaign. To categorize it as only LeVota's endorsement as a reason for the loss and a comment on his influence fails to mention that he also endorsed the new mayor Eileen Weir and the new mayor pro tem Councilman Chris Whiting (who is also his best friend of over 30 years) who both won election last week. LeVota endorsed a mayor and 3 councilmembers in the race. The mayor and 2 of them were elected. How about that as a comment of influence? Oh, that's right, the person trying to feed you half of a story to get a negative posted forgot to tell you that. I think his influence in Independence is just fine.

Thorley outspent Roberson by a wide margin and the Levotas were all in on her. they can try to spin this giant turd, but they got their bell rung by a newbie moderate republican candidate in their own back yard. they better watch out because Paul has shown his weakness.

Thorley was an unknown beaten by a known Roberson family name. Looks like 9:26 is a Levota hater. Don't be jealous because you didn't have the balls to file ANYONE against Paul. You're just jealous because Paul is the senator and continues to be one of the most effective leaders in Jackson County & Jefferson City. As a democratic leader, he endorsed a democratic candidate but her loss has nothing to do with HIS ability. Paul's handpicked mayor won and his best friend (who crushed your friend Cierpiot)is the new mayor pro tem. Don't see much vulnerability there. But you are just one of the anonymous cowardly trash talker and lie spreaders. And frankly, if you see any vulnerability, I'm betting the Levota boys would tell you to "bring it!"

You got very lucky against Patrick. His "campaign manager" was in bed with you and he purposely tanked his campaign. We don't make the same mistakes a second time. Paul's sad performance did display his vulnerability to people all over this state and the 11th will be back on the map for 2016. Good luck trying to cut deals to keep an opponent away, you're going to need it. We're energized, well funded and coming for some deserved payback. Oh, and also, you guys are lazy and not very good at what you do.

ReplyDeletePatrick was the superior candidate, but got sold out by John Carnes. You didn't win, Patrick lost. Lesson learned. Whiting won this time because no one ran against him. Duh. His only negative is his relationship with the corrupt Levotas. But, he is beginning to see the light too after the wood was laid on April 8th. How's it feel boys? Like feeling my paddle on your ass?
