Here's a bit of Kansas City tradition that will hopefully change once we challenge old school preconceptions that no longer represent reality.
NBC Action News: Deal shoppers lined up learly for the Clothesline Sale at Pembroke Hill School. This is the 62nd year for the annual garage sale that raises money for scholarships.
Long ago this USED TO BE a big deal because the Pembroke Hill 1% had access to better quality clothes than the rest of us could afford . . . Even second hand, their stuff held up ... Long, long ago. Better quality fabric, much better workmanship y todo más.
Now . . .
EVERYONE'S CLOTHES ARE MADE IN CHINA OR INDIA AND THEY'RE ALL PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS AFTER ABOUT A YEAR!!!
So, the best a consumer can hope for is that some really old school denizen of this sale donated something that might qualify as vintage . . . But for the most part . . . International trade and global disposable culture have made this tradition pretty much a waste of time and yet another empty gesture to Kansas City's rapidly disappearing middle-class.
More in a bit . . .
Boy you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Someone hurt your widdle fweelings last night?
ReplyDelete... "lice" are hard to eradicate...

ReplyDeleteThe Pembroke sale is awesome! I was amazed at the quality and the low, low prices. Cheaper than Salvation Army and lots, lots better. I don't know where you got your facts, but you are wrong!
The sale is fantastic and the items are nice. Go see for yourself!!
I haven't been this year, so maybe it is a fantastic sale for a change. I have gone in the past and was thoroughly underwhelmed by what was there, the prices (which I found high), and the people running the sale (who seemed convinced that the customers were there to steal everything that wasn't nailed down).
ReplyDeleteAlert Alert Alert ****** Secretly Tony donated a pair of used boxers (yes, Tony is not a boxer shorts kind of guy) to the Clothesline Sale. To the lucky blogger who finds them, $500 :) Let the TREASURE HUNT* begin!!!
ReplyDelete*no members of the Botello Family including Tony, Tony's girlfriend or/or any of Tony's past girlfriends will be eligible for the prize.
MY GAWD. It is bad enough that people have to be poor but to make them wear last year's fashion is a crime against humanity.
ReplyDelete10:24 Does that exclude the vinyl girlfriends?
ReplyDeleteTony's just peeved that there aren't any used sombreros or mexican flags in all that crap. Not even some 200 year old mexican woman outside selling tamales.
ReplyDeleteNah -- Tony's pissed because he showed up and they thought he was there to mow the lawn. Fuckin' beaner half-breed that he is, of course.
ReplyDeleteThe Mexican half of Tony liked the idea of getting something for practically nothing from old white people.
ReplyDeleteThe nigger half hated the idea of having to get up before noon.
So the two halves compromised and he wrote something about the sale instead. With a few misspellings, of course.
Sorry tony you're wrong on this one! Some really great deals better than a lot of thrift stores. I can tell you have never been, otherwise you would know! Sorry pendeho.
ReplyDeletethis post is hilarious and wrong. Typical tkc.
ReplyDeleteDamn @ 3:00 that comment was brutal. Hell the
ReplyDeletePolar Bear gets all up in Tony's shit but even he
doesn't call Tony a half nigger. That is way out
there. I have to side up with Tony on this. He
just threw up some bullshit to get a rise out of
you. Your response was way over the top.
Maybe Tony will respond to your comment, but
I doubt he has any African in him. Although he
was sighted at Troost Fest today with a pick
hanging from his cap.
I've seen Tony's birth certificate. Rita signed the mother line, but for father, it's signed "Toney's Dad." In crayon.
ReplyDeleteTony saved my life once, long ago. Thanks again amigo.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to shop there in the 1960's. I will never forgive her.
ReplyDeleteI always thought the stuff was pricey and lots of the cooler stuff was broken.
ReplyDeleteMom used to work the sale and people would steal all the time but it's a garage sale what you gonna do, call the cops?
Rockhurst has one and Barstow used to have one too. Also the big planned neighborhoods in the suburbs all have one at least once a year. They can be hit or miss.
In my experience the best stuff comes from older peoples houses who are selling and moving to a new house or dead. Im not really looking for clothes at these things.
