This was expected . . . Mayor Sly wins the night and gets to take on $500 MILLION more worth of local debt for the toy train streetcar Kansas City water infrastructure.

No organized opposition here but that won't stop everybody from calling Larry Jacob a genius.

This was in the comments, sounds right:

“The people of this city understand our needs for infrastructure,” Mayor Sly James said of the overwhelming support. “This will enable us to keep our promise to upgrade our water system.”

Well what the fuck happened to all the other money that was supposed to be used to upgrade? Did it just vanish into thin air?

The water bonds will be paid back with already scheduled water rate increases. While sewer rates will continue double-digit increases for at least seven more years, water rates will increase 10 percent this year, then are expected to taper off to 2 percent to 3 percent increases annually in 2015. The average residential water/sewer charge is expected to be about $84 per month in the coming year.

So roughly 20,000 voters turned out.

So in seven years wtf are we going to be paying. $500 a month bills from the water dept?

That's it, folks. KCMO is doomed. This is a back-breaker we'll be paying off for decades. Goodbye, KCMO. Hello, Detroit. Remember this election when the city files for bankruptcy.

Our family company has been in Kansas City MO for 68 years. You won't see us in that city when we celebrate our 70th year in business.

10:39, that's a pretty good idea. Warren Buffet says you can't eat gold. But did that old coot ever think to stockpile water? hell to the no.
