An important presser for Kansas City spring cleaning . . .
Turn in your unwanted medications at take-back event Saturday
The Kansas City Police Department is joining with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to sponsor a drug take-back event this Saturday.
Police will be at locations throughout the City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect unused prescription and over-the-counter medicine. Those turning in the medicines won’t even have to get out of their cars. They can just hand the drugs over to police, no questions asked. Police will not track who turns in what. All forms of medicine (liquids, pills) will be accepted, with the exception of needles. The D.E.A. will incinerate the drugs.
Kansas City Police collected 770 pounds of drugs at the last take-back event in October, more than any other city in Missouri.
Turning in unwanted and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications to police is the safest and most environmentally friendly way to dispose of them.
“Don’t throw them away,” Detective Donie Hoffman said. “There’s a misconception if you put it in cat litter, it will degrade it. That’s not true. If you flush it down the toilet, it gets into our water and ecosystem. … And we don’t want controlled-substance prescription medications getting in the wrong hands.”
Detective Hoffman said families who recently have had loved ones pass away after a prolonged illness especially could benefit from the take-backs. These individuals often are prescribed multiple controlled substances, and the take-back ensures no one else can abuse them.
The Kansas City, Mo., locations where people can drop off the drugs are:
CVS – 2435 Independence Ave.
MainCor Parking Lot – 3215 Main St.
Hen House – 6430 N. Chatham
Price Chopper – 8430 Wornall
CVS – 11124 Holmes
North Patrol Division – 1001 NW Barry Rd.
Shoal Creek Patrol Division – 6801 NE Pleasant Valley Rd.
There are permanent drop-off boxes at the Shoal Creek and North patrol division stations.

Valuable effort. Rare purposeful post.

ReplyDeleteThanks. I wondered where those four-eyed carp in Brush Creek were coming from!
There is no such thing as an 'important presser.' But TV stations love 'em... that's another 90 seconds they don't have to think up something to fill with on their 'news'casts.
ReplyDeleteYou can drop them off at my house for $$
ReplyDeleteThe illusion of doing worthwhile police work!
ReplyDeleteIt is NOT the KCPD's mission, nor responsibility to collect unused, expired, or unwanted RX and OTC drugs.
If you like this type of creative propaganda public relations, then perhaps:
the KCFD can collect unused matches, lighters, and garden hoses
the KCMO Street Maintenance Dept. can collect unwanted gravel, tar, and discarded concrete
the Mayor can collect discarded bowties, unused jewelry, and escaping hot air
9:18 well said!!
ReplyDeleteI can never understand why a person needs to turn them in when you can dispose of them yourself.
ReplyDelete1027 I think it is so they can get a list of people who are not using all their painkillers aka profiling
ReplyDeleteI'm a cancer survivor. If they put me in prison I would die quicker than that Nazi prick Glen Miller.
