Kansas City Cowtown Ballroom Conversion

We've been following the saga of El Torreon for a minute on this blog but now we're happy to read the official report.

Check it:

Dance hall days give way to hymns

Deets from one of the best Kansas City Biz Journal Newsies:

"Now, the former Cowtown Ballroom will become home to Bridgeport Community Church. Founded five years ago, the nondenominational church began meeting in a small photography studio in the Crossroads Arts District."

Hopefully this bit of Midtown Kansas City revival will take hold and if not at least there's another place to hit during the early mornings on Martini Corner.

Developing . . .

  5. Oh, no! Not another church! What this town needs is a good brothel.

  6. I think their real estate developers. Hope it works out better for them than Emerald Village. Midtown didn't even know what DMT was until that cultural experiment happened!

  7. They bring the place up to code yet?
    Handicap accessibility?

  8. This church put a choke hold Martini Corner. This is the last nail in the coffin for tourism in Midtown.

  9. Here's the new Klan, same as the old Klan...

This association for white, male business owners is trying to take over our hood. Check it... Bridgeport has meetings called “Men’s Breakfast Meet-Ups” for MALE ECONOMIC DEVELOPERS to gather together at BUSINESSES OWNED BY WHITE MALE MEMBERS OF THE BRIDGEPORT EVANGELICAL CHURCH.
Amongst other things, these white men are discussing "Neighborhood Revitalization" and we all know what it means when RICH WHITE MEN discuss "revitalizing" the city. Bridgeport says they are committed to serving the needs of Kansas City’s most vulnerable and underserved neighborhoods [ALL I'M HEARING IS THAT ANOTHER BUNCH OF WHITE MEN IS GOING TO TELL PEOPLE OF COLOR TO BUILD COMMUNITY GARDENS SO THE AREA WILL BE NICER FOR THE WHITE DUDES WHEN THEY MOVE IN].

Bridgeport Community Development Corporation seeks to work with existing community efforts in community economic development and education [WHAT?? LIKE EMERALD VILLAGE WHICH IS GOOD FOR NOTHING OTHER THAN INTRODUCING DESIGNER DRUGS TO LOCAL KIDS. WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HELL DMT WAS BEFORE THOSE JACKASSES GOT HERE]. Bridgeport hosts what they call "Worship Nights" which consist of CORPORATE WORSHIP, prayer, and ministry time and they want to transform neighborhoods from "centers of despair and neglect" into self sustaining urban villages that are both vibrant and livable [FOR A BUNCH OF RICH WHITE DUDES WHO WANT TO LIVE CLOSE TO THE PLAZA].

For more info on how THEY plan to “revitalize”, e-mail info@bridgeportchurch.org, call 816-830-7088, visit 3101 Gillham Plaza, Kansas City, MO 64109, and check out everything at http://www.bridgeportchurch.org/

  11. The previous owner did a lot to support the arts in Kansas City. Opening up another church when there is literally two churches on every block in Midtown is a blow to arts and entertainment. No question this freeze is a benefit to the Crossroads District. Oh yea, and Hail Jesus!
