Kansas City anti-crime activist Alonzo Washington criticizes the priorities on national media in their coverage of one instance of violence vs. others.

The hope here is to learn to value lost lives EQUALLY despite demographic considerations and it's worth mentioning that Mr. Washington's argument seems to be with the media and not in any way detracting from the victims of the recent JoCo tragedy.

ReplyDeleteI get the desparity, but it was a doctor and is grandson in an area of very little violent crime. If it were a black doctor and his grandson in the same place it would still be national news and equally tragic.

When you are NOT on a battlefield, you do not expect that. This is news.
I have been on a battlefield. I have heard the snap of bullets going by my head; I have seen a little blur bullets leave when they break the sound barrier. I might expect to see the same in inner city KCMO, but not at a suburban community center or assisted living home.
Yesterday's hate crimes were national news.
The routine carnage conducted in inner city communities where people proudly wear "Stiches for Sniches" is simply not news in KCMO, nor nationally.

The real question for me is why this asshole had a gun after going to federal prison for a violent crime. Why wasn't law enforcement tracking him and taking him seriously? When he mentioned a desire to commit violence (as he did to the MSU class), why didn't the FBI search his home for guns? Why was he lecturing at Missouri State University in the first place--is there really an educational value to him insulting Jewish and other minority students in person in a scary way?

You can't solve any of your problems when you have no regard for the dead because they are the wrong color. Look at the facts, it isn't just blacks killing blacks. That's a very harmful myth.
