WISDOM ON FRED PHELPS FUNERAL PROTEST FROM KANSAS CITY LGBTQIA ACTIVIST WICK THOMAS!!!
While newsies and pundits from across the land are writing up their pious sentiments, here's an important word from a Kansas City activist who has been on the front lines of this debate.
RIGHT NOW . . . WICK THOMAS RECENTLY WROTE THIS INSIGHTFUL PASSAGE ON PROTESTS PROPOSED FOR THE FUNERAL OF KANSAS HATER FRED PHELPS!!!
True to form . . . Respect for Wick Thomas in calling out local players in the ongoing Kansas City culture war debate . . .
Wick Thomas Seyz: "I have lived on the border of Kansas/Missouri my entire life and organized many rallies, protests, and events for the queer community. The Westboro Baptist Church has been at almost every one of them. While I recognize that it may be pointless due to the hurt that this man has caused, I would ask that his funeral not be protested. We are simply cogs in the machine he has built if we respond to his death with the same hatred he showed us. This man has hurt so many and if you do not want his legacy to live on let him, his family, and his church fade into the obscurity of time. Channel your anger toward making gains for those he would condemn. Better yet, focus that anger on far more sinister and powerful local churches such as IHOP and The Call Ministry. There is no solace in proving that we are no better than he."
Seriously, this is the most insightful thing I've read about the post-Phelps Klan era and it is directly from somebody who has faced their hatred and not newsies and columnists looking to win PC points.
