Tragic Dead Tree Media Real Estate Lesson

Take a look at Kansas City's token Latina columnist hack pretending that she understands education and/or Downtown real estate speculation . . .

Mary Sanchez: Recasting vacant lots as assets, not blight can turn Kansas City's problem into opportunity

In one silly string of about 700 words, Mary Sanchez proves that she doesn't have a reasonable grasp over:

- The Kansas City Land Bank

- How tax subsidies work

- Simple laws of supply and demand

This "tax breaks will solve everything" mentality championed by Dead Tree Media is part of what's reinforcing the spending spree of Mayor Sly and his corporate cronies. Sadly, saving Kansas City schools, neighborhoods or entertainment districts by way of tax breaks is nothing more than a pipe dream . . . Yes, that applies to the Ollie Gates Eastside tax free zone resurrection plan as well.

Time and time again, smarter people than TKC have noted that SECURITY AND FOCUSING ON BASIC SERVICES should be the top priority for Kansas City but politicos and all other brands of con men hope that locals would rather chase eco-devo windmills than spend time contemplating simple math.

More in a bit . . .

  1. Perhaps it's time for the Star to recast that vacant space between Mary Sanchez' ears as an "opportunity" for a real columnist?

  2. I think that's already been tried.
    Unfortunately there weren't any buyers!
Doesn't Mary know anything about ANYTHING?

  4. Here is why urban areas all over the US are in trouble.

    Violence from blacks.

Here, yesterday, an old 71 year old white lady, got a bag over her head and was suffocated by a nice black man out on parole.

  7. This has to be one of Mary's silliest and least-informed columns, which is saying a lot.
If she really thinks the thousands of vacant lots and abandoned houses on the east side have been caused by suburban roads, she needs to ride with the cops in East Patrol a few weekends and spend some time in the KCPS schools.
And maybe she can get the KC Star to make some big-time investments east of Troost where she apparently has decided there'll be a great return-on-investment.
Only Duiguid is more ridiculous, as he certainly proved this morning.

  8. Ollie needs to build a movie theater complex in his zone.

  9. When the most important investment the city can make is the P&L District, that drains $12 million per year. Why should you want to live in CK.

  10. Yes readers, she's done it again! Ms. Sanchez has chosen a topic which has been thoroughly discussed an infinite number of previous times and upon which a consensus has already been reached. Suburban sprawl is not good.

So why does she repeatedly follow this routine? By stating a non-controversial opinion on a familiar subject, Ms. Sanchez is attempting to "go with the flow"....to not arouse attention to herself so as to not be discovered as an imposter. She prefers the reader to simply nod in agreement, and move on to the next article.

"Suburban sprawl has contributed to the decline of cities, and if left unabated it will continue to threaten metropolitan areas, affecting the livability of both urban and suburban neighborhoods."

Does the sentence above make sense to you? Do you find it redundant? And perhaps twice as long as needed to convey the idea? Is the phrase "left unabated" used properly?

Oh dear, these writers at the KC Falling Star appear to have falling standards.

  11. So, the grifters are getting on the bandwagon once again... first they cast everything as blight to serve their own end. Now, everything is an asset to serve their own end. This is the next Black grifter project focus. Us regular folks just call it stealing.

  12. Ms. Sanchez may need to take a few courses at the local university. As in accounting 101, assets and liabilities are separate categories.
