TKC EXCLUSIVE FACT CHECK: KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS LEAVE DISTRICT ALTOGETHER RATHER THAN JUST TRANSFER SCHOOLS!!!

This morning it's important to FACT CHECK a misleading bit of Kansas City Dead Tree Media propaganda.

Here's the printed misdirection . . .

Newspaper: Few families file for transfers out of Kansas City school district

Seems hopeful, right?

Maybe like things aren't really so bad @ Kansas City Public Schools. The KCPS could be making progress after all, right?

Wrong.

Check it:

RATHER THAN BATTLE SCHOOL TRANSFER POLITICS KANSAS CITY FAMILIES CONTINUE TO ABANDON THE DISTRICT ALTOGETHER!!!

Don't take my word for it . . .

Look at enrollment stats over the past 30 years

20 years

and 10 years.

The reality is that families white, black and anybody else capable of escape have simply moved out of the district or found other options than endure one series of promises after the next. This wide-scale exodus is the reason that so many schools stand vacant and waiting to be "re-purposed" or whatever.

Sadly, there are plenty of newsies willing to overlook this fact in order to relay propaganda from the District about the latest turnaround.

That's not to say there hasn't been some progress but it's hard fought and minimal at best.

Meanwhile, the KCPS continues to blight neighborhoods and remain one of the most beleaguered institutions in Kansas City Proper.

It's important for parents and residents to understand these facts of life rather than believe media spin that simply mimics district talking points amid fight for funding for fewer and fewer students over the long term.

Developing . . .

Comments

  1. Those who can, of course, will leave. Those trapped in unsalable properties and who can't afford rentals elsewhere remain captives of the KCPS.

  5. Kansas City politics shouldn't be anywhere near Schools but it is. So, savvy parents just move. Freedom,Inc. isn't welcome in Johnson County, Raytown, Lees Summit, Blue Springs and all the rest. Only Kansas City has this Freedom, Inc. problem and they refuse to address it. Can't do their shit in suburbs. Freedom, Inc. is scare of white people. They only cause carnage where there other blacks.

  7. This is true. Lees Summit, Blue Springs and North KC districts are all larger than KCPS.

The new compromise on the transfer law helps the power hungry board members and the other districts that would've received the transfers, but what about the kids that aren't lucky enough to get into Lincoln or Border Star?

  8. While I understand the "blame it all on the schools thing", but have you looked at the neighborhoods. Every other lot is vacant and that is a kind estimate. Entire blocks formerly filled with houses are just weeds now. The nicer parts of city have truly abandoned the district and who could blame them after deseg destroyed their alma maters.

  9. The KC Star is a steno pool for everyone in this town! They stand for NOTHING!

  10. Who can blame people for wanting to leave an area for a better one? You have leeches in the community who suck the people in the community dry, suck the blood from funding that would be beneficial to certain areas (not just schools but neighborhoods). Of course it's easy to place the blame on the schools as a whole, but why not point the fingers in the right direction? The schools would be better if certain people stopped tossing their personal agendas into them and using bullying/corruption to capitalize on already bad situations. I have 2 words for any family who can get out of those areas and relocate to other areas one thing....SMART MOVE!!
