TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! FORMER KANSAS CITY TOP COP CORWIN AND DEPUTY CHIEF ORTEGA ENDORSE CRISPIN REA 3RD DISTRICT AT-LARGE CITY COUNCIL RUN!!!

Here's the latest on what's turning out to be Kansas City's most exciting City Council election race so far.

Check it:

KCPD Police Chief Jim Corwin (ret.) and Deputy Chief Vincent Ortega (ret.) back Rea in Third District At-Large City Council primary race

Here's the nod from former KCPD Chief Corwin . . .

“While our police force continues to fight tirelessly to decrease our murder rate and make our city safer, our success depends on the input, buy-in, and support of the entire city—neighborhood and political leaders alike,” said retired KCPD Police Chief Jim Corwin. “Crispin Rea has my endorsement because of his proven track record listening to stakeholders, finding common ground, and weighing competing interests to find solutions that work.”

The recommend from Former Deputy Chief Ortega . . .

"Having served as the Deputy Chief of the Kansas City Police Department, I am confident that Crispin will continue to make working with our neighborhoods and stakeholders his top priority to help prevent and solve crime," said Deputy Chief Ortega (ret.). "One of the keys to effective community policing and crime prevention is neighborhood support. With over 17,350 abandoned houses, growing blight, and continual divestment in the city's core, our neighborhood communities need a leader who will listen to them and prioritize their plans, hopes, and interests. Crispin has my endorsement because he wants to make our neighborhoods cleaner and safer, by listening to the needs and priorities of our neighborhoods."

Crispin's anti-violence campaign note:

“I am proud to have the endorsements of Chief Corwin and Chief Ortega,” said Rea, “I accept these endorsements with the grave charge to tirelessly serve those most likely to fall prey to this city’s cycle of violence. Their comments today highlight the fact we know all too well: our city cannot afford the politics and posturing around the lives we stand to lose if we do not act with urgency and action to stop the senseless violence that for decades has made too many of our neighborhoods unsafe.”

A bit of bragging from his campaign . . .

Chief Corwin and Chief Ortega join the diverse group of leaders who have come out supporting Rea, including Rep. Bonnaye Mims, former Northland Councilman Bill Skaggs, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Carlos Gomez, and KCPS Board President Airick West.

  6. Crispin might be a good candidate for another district but if he takes control of the 3rd then we can count on more disengagement from this district because the people just won't care about what he does, he is out of touch and he doesn't represent the people.

  9. No surprise that some top cops would support anyone who at least has a chance of supporting the PD instead of playing to the mob like Reed.
And it's good to see someone actually run for city office in KCMO with an idea of doing something about an actual municipal issue or problem instead of whose butt they plan to kiss at the Chamber of Commerce.
It's just too bad that Rea has neither the experience, expertise, or guts to actually work to curb the violence in the city if elected.
    Nice campaign slogan; empty suit.

  11. I don't care what Ortega says, and his endorsement could be a deal-killer for me.

  12. He can be any worse than Melba Curls. Plus maybe more Hispanics will move to the 3rd and clean it up.

Dear Mr. Tony: Thanks for posting this info. I am not surprised that two former top cops in the KCPD are supporting Rea in his campaign against Reed. Reed's charges of racism with respect to the KCPD threaten to destroy the last remnant of the willingness of the KCPD to fight black-on-black crime; Reed's demagoguery on this issue could eventually cause the cops on the beat, out of sheer self-survival, to stop doing their jobs in the black neighborhoods of the city. And, remember, despite the media hysteria over cases like George Zimmerman, white-on-black violence is actually rather rare in the US: Last year, 93% of the black people killed were killed by other blacks. We have already been living with a crime disaster in the black neighborhoods of KCMO since the spring of 2008--politicos like Reed threaten to make that crime disaster a lot worse. Take care!! Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans

  15. Rea will be geat on the city council. He's already had lots of practice trying to approve no-bid contracts for insiders during his tenure on the school board and there's even a bigger pot of tax dollars down at 12th and Oak.
Cut from the same old KCMO political class cloth.
    World class.

  17. Corwin should stick to something he has some expertise in, like stealing his neighbors wife.....

  18. Is he related to rodent rug ?

  19. What do you mean stealing his neighbors wife?

  20. Mr. Rea, why did you go to law school?

You're graduating this Spring, so why aren't you busy concentrating on finishing your last semester, prepping for the bar exam, and lining up the best employment offer?

  21. Crispin is running for 3rd District At-Large. Jermaine Reed is the 3rd District In-District Rep. They aren't running against each other. Melba Curls is termed out of her seat and that is the seat for which Crispin is a candidate.

  22. Well dayum. Now I have to vote for Rea. An ex cop told me so! What toothbrush and deodorant does he endorse? What shoes are endorsed? I can't think for myself. I need people to tell me what to do.

  23. This kid has never held a job. He is a law student. he has not passed the bar exam. And he thinks he is qualified to make laws for Kansas City businesses, citizens, schools? This is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  24. He is running because he cannot find a job as an attorney. He is nowhere near the top of his class despite going to a (very) bottom tier law school. Only in KC can a kid with no hope of getting a job the private sector have the audacity to run for public office. It is not his age that is most offensive; it is his utter lack of merit. But, of course, his ego will not be deterred.

I love the way Jim and Vince fill my ass! What time you getting home daddy?????

  26. Does anyone really care what Corwin and Ortega think. Corwin was a cancer for the PD, spending his years doing everything he could to benefit himself. He's a fucking clown. Ortega was the most over-promoted moron in our department's history. Had to use the race card to get past sergeant, having been kicked out of every meaningful assignment at that rank due to his incompetence. You too idiots need to stay out of the public eye. You're just embarrassing yourselves.
