TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! FIRST LOOK: KANSAS CITY WATER BOND QUESTION 1 MEGA-MAILER HITS THIS WEEK!!!

For better or worse, Kansas City politics is conducted by snail mail.

To wit . . .

RIGHT NOW TKC HAS FIRST LOOK AT THE FIRST MEGA-MAILER PUSHING A YES VOTE ON UPCOMING KANSAS CITY WATER BONDS!!!

Take a look:

Very much like Mayor Sly's larger than life personality . . . This mailer is sizable, glossy and very professional looking . . .

A peek inside shows a personal message pushing pricey water bonds from Kansas City's Mayor Sly James.

Inside there's a bit more fuzzy logic and math.

Finally, there's a reminder that Mayor and Council approve this increase in Water Bond borrowing while rates skyrocket and WITHOUT A WATER DEPARTMENT AUDIT to see if KCMO can make any improvements.

  1. tkc, you forgot to mention that this campaign will be accompanied by the typical call to vote or face higher water prices. Like the rates aren't higher already.

  2. Keep KC Water Flowing3/26/14, 7:45 AM

They are literally telling you. If you don't vote for it, KC water gets turned off.

  3. Don't forget that the water department is responsible for moving the utilities along streetcar routes.

They're claiming the bonds will create 10K jobs.

This is more or less so that we don't see dramatic rate increases coinciding with the streetcar.

  4. My monthly bills are higher than my bimonthly bills used to be.

  5. I support smart investments, now, if the City would just propose some.

  6. Where's the water department audit?

    ReplyDelete
  7. This will probably be turned into the Missouri Ethics Commission, as taxpayer-funded campaign material cannot tell people how to vote - they can urge somebody to vote, but have to remain neutral. KCMO should know that.

  8. I hate sly James. Voting no on everything going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Vote No get his teenagers from the Plaza to the vote for it .

    ReplyDelete
  10. No more Sly you are exposed just vote no.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It is time for KC to start voting NO anything Sly wants you to vote yes on. Sly talks about fixing old water mains and pipes but he is not talking about how much is going to be spent on water mains into new developments. This should be paid by the developers.

  12. KC Water can change names, politicians to promote, it is the biggest cash cow of KC. In 5 years a 300% rate increase and half a billion in bonds already, and now this, Help. State must audit a Star opinionator mentioned audit once and was castigated by mgmt. Watch a stand around crew sometime, sickening. What a deal free raw material, yeh.

  13. No water dept audit ! No vote for water bonds ! That simple !

    ReplyDelete
  14. No audit!!
    No money!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ni bonds or fancy financing required to build pet projects. We just do the normal KC political swindle. However, if you want safe water we will extort the money out of you by making it impossible to have clean water without a vote. BASTARDS!

  18. Anything sly advances, vote NO. He just wants to tax tax tax tax tax tax. Or in this case, he wants money without the accountability of an audit. Fuck this guy. - vote him out of office.

  19. 8:01 is exactly right, and that's the reason it went monthly. They were hoping that people would be less likely to notice a 150% increase if it appeared as though it were just a 25% increase.

Not only are we paying so much more for water, but it tastes like shit now. And then they have some bullshit excuse like, "It's a natural change that happens every autumn," even though it's NEVER tasted like shit in autumn before.

I'm telling you, the city is taking money from the water department to pay other bills, and the $500M water bonds are so that we don't notice the rate increases when they continue to spend more.

Vote Yes at your own peril. We're only enabling the city to keep out monthly water bills "low" so they can't continue to spend.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ...sorry, so they CAN continue to spend.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Water rates are sky high without explanation. Bring on the audit, Mr. Schweich!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Vote YES on Question 1 for WATER!

(Only visitors/tourists would pay the increased fees when they rent a hotel room or rental car.)
