Kansas City Downtown Renaissance Redux

KCPT's local show talks up Downtown living AGAIN and despite so many contrary indicators and one profitless TIF after the next.

  1. I wonder how big a house Dante Hesse can buy with the last $49 million he sucked out of the company? The shareholders deserve him.

  2. The Star's Tom McClanahan used to write about downtown KCMO was a sterile human unfriendly place and all the millions poured into it haven't changed that observation.
16% of the metro's jobs; 20,000 residents out of a population of 2.3 million; lots of hype and youthful enthusiasm.
When the millenials age out and head for the safety, yards, good schools, and safety of the suburbs for their families, the brief renaissance will quickly become another dark ages, with massive city debt and lots more half-empty buildings.
    Too bad.

  3. Thanks to generous subsidies from City Hall downtown is becoming a bedroom community for JoCo where the jobs are.
