INQUIRING TKC READER MIND WANTS TO KNOW: HOW CAN GET OUT OF PAYING THE KANSAS CITY ZOO FOREVER TAX AFTER FREE DAY RUCKUS DISASTER?!?!

Here's an important Kansas City question that deserves an answer . . .

LET'S EXAMINE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE KANSAS CITY ZOO FREE DAY NOW ON HOLD!!!

A more inquisitive soul than TKC is putting this one out there . . . Feel free to attempt an answer . . .

"The ordinance (4334) passed by the county that allowed the zoo tax to be placed on the ballot specifically cites the pledge for free admission on certain days. Since those free days are being suspended shouldn't collection of the tax also be suspended? I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer by any means, but if I had entered into a contract with that language and now my co party was not living up to the terms I would stop paying!!"

Sadly, we know that in Kansas City the tax and spend lifestyle of our local politicos never quits and the only real escape is by way of U-Haul . . . Still, it's a nice thought that KCMO failing to live up to their part of the bargain could offer a way out of at least one forever tax.

  1. Excellent Point!

Please file suit if "free days" remain suspended.

This could turn out like the illegal "red-light" cameras!

  2. If the city had to refund all the tax money collected that was based on compaign lies or council sleight of hand after the fact, most of the residents could comfortably retire.
Including TIF projects where residents were "promised" sewers and an East Patrol police station that has now gone almost 50% over budget after the public safety tax was approved.
And now the city's about to embark on a new campaign for tax increases for the streetcar, with buses added to try to expand its appeal.
Just a brief look at past campaigns will convince you not to believe any of it.

  4. Government has tried to prevent (and intimidate) the people of Jackson County, Missouri from pursuing legal action against them. Many believe that the cost of litigation is too high and costly and they simply do not have the money but a petitin to enforce is altogether different. The person who prevails typically... the language is generally written into the statutes states that losing party pays costs. A person could actally make off good with controverting this issue.

  11. Just like everything else in America. White people pay taxes to make something better and non-tax paying black people ruin it. This has been going on for decades. Wonder what the tipping point will be? Has to be soon.

  12. The solution will be for the police to continue to babysit for the absentee parents who failed to raise their children to act in a civilized manner. The Plaza and the KC Zoo will eventually suffer the same fate as Bannister Mall because most civilized people are afraid of being labeled racists if they dare point out the race of those responsible and suggest directing corrective measures solely at the perpetrators. Even Mayor Sly jumped on the "race blinders" bandwagon when he claimed the disruptive crowd at the zoo was different than the one at the Plaza. Totally false. As someone who dealt directly with both groups, it's exactly the same people. Not just a few, hundreds and hundreds of them with the sole purpose of intimidation and acting like thugs. Why, because the response is usually someone at city hall throwing tax money at them for more free things. Free food, free phones, free college, and free healthcare isn't enough. Now we have to provide free entertainment just so civilized people can enjoy their weekend. Sad.
