CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER ANNOUNCES MAJOR SUCCESS IN SECURING CRITICAL FUNDS FOR KANSAS CITY
Kansas City – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, is pleased to announce efforts to secure and restore federal funding for Kansas City have been successful. The grants are to fight terrorism and assist in emergency preparedness, and Kansas City won big in both areas.
Today, the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency announced its list of cities receiving grants. The awards are for the State Homeland Security Program, and the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI).
After getting ZERO dollars last year under UASI, Kansas City will receive $1,000,000 this fiscal year.
And Missouri has been awarded almost $4 million dollars ($3,978,000) for fiscal year 2014 for our State Homeland Security Program. That’s an increase of almost a half of a million dollars over last year’s allocation of $3,459,364.
“This is an astounding victory for Kansas City and the entire metropolitan region,” said U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II. “The threats we face, from tornadoes to terrorists, continue to increase and become more complex. Our local law enforcement officers and first responders are working day and night to be prepared, and we must do everything we can to support them - plain and simple. And these grants make a dramatic difference.”
Congressman Cleaver has argued vociferously in Washington, that Kansas City should be returned to the list of cities getting funds. After years of receiving UASI funds, in 2011 and again in 2013, Kansas City got nothing. In August of last year, he reached out to then Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, to again plead Kansas City’s case.
“I am thrilled our area will get the richly deserved funding we need to help in making our community a safer place,” said Congressman Cleaver. “Make no mistake, I will continue to work to make sure we get what we need to help, not hamstring, our police officers, firefighters, first responders, and all others dedicating themselves to these unbelievably challenging jobs. They must be armed with the best talent, the best tools, and the best techniques, in order to be prepared to fight through the worst.'

The money that politicians and bureaucrats have looted has gone and continues to go into the pockets of the nonproductive. Vying with one another to ingratiate themselves with the most politically influential, politicians and bureaucrats toss around their loot to raise the height of the soapbox before which others rush to kneel. None of that money creates wealth. It stops dead, going no farther.
ReplyDeleteIf the electorate is concerned about the destitute, they should demand radical and permanent deregulation that closes three-quarters of the agencies and cuts federal salaries by 50%. The result would free producers to create more goods and jobs, raising the standard of living for all.
If the electorate is concerned about the unemployed they should recognize that only those with savings can create jobs. If the electorate is concerned about the young or the elderly, the sick, disabled or abused, they should recognize that only the able, the competent, the thoughtful -- in other words, producers -- can alleviate and solve such problems.

ReplyDeleteThese three characteristics, in combination, have enabled public sector unions to achieve a level of influence on policy-making and regulatory enforcement that has changed the lives of Americans. While the Constitution is very careful to place limits on the powers of Congress and clearly states that all powers not given to Congress reside with the states, public sector unions have effectively seized control of most of the regulatory powers of agencies and the enforcement of these regulations, since their union member network is able to reach from the largest Federal agencies into the smallest school districts and municipal governments.
Public sector unions are best understood as a nationwide political organization, within government, that operates clandestinely and with powers often granted only to Congress by the Constitution. In Illinois the two teachers' unions are the number one campaign contributors to the Democratic Party and they endorse candidates in the state who agree to maintain their contracts. They work in collusion with the Dept. of Education in Washington to obtain Federal grant money for hundreds of programs in education, thereby supporting the areas they administer with outside dollars.
Great, more government employees voting for bread and circus from guys like Cleaver.

This will disappear into the same old grifter pockets or be used for expensive new toys for the fire and police departments which will then not be maintained or most likely ever used.
Maybe the KCFD can buy some expensive stuff that will help them understand their responsiblities at the sites of gas leaks.
