CALLING OUT KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY ON HIS LOVE FOR CORPORATE WELFARE!!!

Tax season approaches for Kansas City residents, but Mayor Sly James seems have dedicated his most of his administration's efforts to awarding breaks to his buddies.

Read this missive that examines the latest Burns & Mac giveaway:

Show-Me Blog: Mayor James’ Corporate Welfare Handouts

Money quote:

"When a city abates property taxes, it freezes the income of other jurisdictions such as the library and schools, which are funded through those taxes. Mayor James talks a lot about how he is concerned about education in Kansas City, but says his hands are tied. Yet here is an opportunity for him to support education funding and he seems to be ready to cave in before the company has even asked."

The lesson is that everybody likes freebies and Mayor Sly's popularity has a lot to do with his corporate cronyism and not just his great smile and upbeat attitude.

  2. KANSAS CITY BLOG CONFESSION AND WEEKEND PLANS: CRAIG GLAZER WAS A CHIPPENDALE'S DUDE!!!

TKC NOTE: Check this note from Craig Glazer featuring a surprising confession and a preview of his weekend plans . . .

Chippendales: The Real McCoy at Stanfords
    Steve Kramer for the Weekend

It’s been a few decades since the original Chippendale’s in Los Angeles closed. I should know, I did a four week stint there as a waiter in the early eighties. Yes, there were other clubs by that name in both New York and Las Vegas but none of the original ones survived. The program was moved to Las Vegas where it remains today. Some of the original dancers are now part of the management and crew chiefs of the young hot dancers at the Rio Hotel each week to nightly sold out shows. Over the last several years, Chippendale’s has branched out and has US tours that travel to many cities with a crew of talented male dancers. The group of Chippendale’s dancers who originate from the Rio Hotel in Vegas do as many as five shows a week in theaters, comedy clubs and other entertainment venues.
So from now what is the original Chippendale’s at the Rio Hotel, the tour lands Thursday at Stanford and Sons with over two hours of dancing, bare chests and muscles, exposed legs and good looks to a sold out house of mid-western females who are all on cloud 9 watching the event unfold. Chippendale’s does a nice job of not only putting on choreographed dance numbers from their Vegas shows, but also picking a diverse selection of dancers to fill the need of what these various women fantasize about.

It’s a surprisingly tasteful show by the male dancers. Maybe what’s most entertaining is how wild the female audience gets as the show moves forward. So if you are into a bunch of buffed up, bare-chested and then some handsome young studs from the West Coast, Stanford and Sons is the place for you Thursday night to see the show they call ‘Fifty Shades of Men’. Fair warning, there are only a few seats left, call early, it will definitely sell out.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, see two former Kansas City guys who have been doing comedy for some time. Steve Kramer will headline. Kramer is the nice looking young man who has over a hundred celebrity voices in his repertoire, as well as song parodies, such as the ones he performed on the WB series ‘Hype’ which he appeared on along with Frank Caliendo. Kramer went on to co-star with Michael ‘Chicken’ Roof on Spike TV’s ‘Raising the Roofs’. In 2012, Steve illustrated, produced and helped to voice the Stanford and Sons reality cartoon that was a top five finalist at the Montreal ‘Just for Laughs’ comedy festival. Steve tours nationally and internationally with Pablo Francisco doing stand-up at all the Improv Comedy Clubs in the US and theaters in Europe. Kramer’s co-star will be former Kansas Citian Will C who has been seen on hit TV shows like USA Network’s ‘Monk’ and ‘Psych’ as well as A&E’s ‘Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels’. See them live at Stanford & Sons Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Next week, catch Trevor Moore, five year star of Comedy Central’s ‘The Whitest Kids U Know’ here at Stanford’s. Tonight, catch Ian Karmel on Conan on TBS discussing his appearance at Stanford’s in two weeks with the red-haired host of the show! You know, Stanford’s is popping up all over national television recently with a mention by Khloe Kardashian when she guest-hosted ‘Chelsea Lately’ and we were recently mentioned on Chris Hardwick’s Comedy Central show, @midnight.

For tickets or more information about any of these shows, call (913)400-7500 or go to stanfordscomedyclub.com.

  3. Instead of the constant sniveling Thay goes on about everything in KC, why don't you whiners buy a ticket to the Big 12 Tournament and give the rest of us a break.

You might find enjoyment I'm something other than cum posts and racist comments. If you need funds go out and collect cans.

Life is what you choose to make it. Less time here would be a good start.

The median 'Merican is a third-class citizen. You aren't going to get much time with an elected official if you are not a big money donor.

Even those who are not in the pocket of special interest monies (like unicorns) have to listen to their donors above all.

  7. I think the term here is either House Nigger or Uncle Tom. He is mayor for the same reason Barack Obama is president: the Elite need a black front man to show how diverse they are. Neither one of these dudes are down with the homies.

  8. True that 607. You could power a nuclear plant with all the negativity on this site.

  9. Sly's right that his hands are tied in that he really doesn't accomplish much of anything.
What's important to him, though, are all his announcements, ribbon-cuttings, promises, and claims.
Doing anything is always someone else's job.
Not a bad gig if you can convince just over 50% of the voters.

I'm hesitant to respond to this having no knowledge of who drafted this but I agree with the sentiments. Mayor Sly speaks out both sides of his mouth. On the one hand he talks up concern about education. On the other hand, the funding mechanism in Kansas City is directly related to the assessment and collection of property taxes. Certain School Board members are equally guilty of the double-speak. Mayor Sly's development practices so far and concerning the East Patrol Police Development has razed more 24 acres of residential land in an area that really needs the investment from property taxes. In other words, Mayor Sly says one thing and does something totally different to contradict himself. CYA politics take precedence over public interest. These aren't his only contradictions... there's more. Imagine that.

  12. That shit is all great, but if he is cutting funds to the Kansas City School District, he is doing yeoman's work in office.

The scum sucking cash out of this city over at the KCSD need to sit down.

  13. Fuck Standfords and Steve Kramer lets do the Big Twelve and watch some basketball.

  14. Don't blame Sly, these TIFs were under Barnes. He is just stuck with subsidizing them (P&L) when they don't perform as expected.

    ReplyDelete
  15. There have been many new TIFs created during the Sly regime and he has easily outclassed all his predecessors in creating massive new debt as far as the eye can see.
The P&L District is a bust financially, but at least it generates a little money.
The streetcar will be a sucking financial chest wound for the city for decades. It's FREE!
Sly has to be the most irresponsible local elected offical to come along in a very long time and in KCMO, that's quite a record.

  16. What about the tax abated projects? They cause immediate and disproportionate harm to schools. I do blame Sly for not putting an end to the abusive and corrupt practices.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Fuck Sly! He could say NO! Sorry old TIFs can't do it anymore. Take the hit and move on. THAT won't happen. He is a pussy puppet!

    ReplyDelete
  18. 9:23 Why would Sly put an end to the abusive and corrupt practices? He thinks he being Mayor entitles him to certain privileges like being abusive and corrupt. I personally hate the guy.

  21. There is a new tax abatement demand for the proposed new building on the obviously blighted Plaza. Some palms must have been greased on this one as I haven't heard Mary O' screaming about it, and I live pretty close to PV.

  22. Monkey Man is a pathetic, paper tiger mayor. Uncle Tom at best.

  23. The Mayor is helping out those who contributed to campaign for mayor. Of course is is going to be a supporter of TIF and other corp tax breakes. He is a smart guy and a lawyer. He knows to stay bought. The rest of us have to just stop complaining and accept the corruption of the democracy. In time all great societies fall.
