Who Runs Kansas City? Not Voters!!!

A quick tidbit about Dead Tree Media column that went over like a lead balloon today . . .

Take a look, most of you haven't . . .

Yael: Kansas City’s powers that be don’t always get what they want

More than a few of you sent messages about this one . . .

Here's an important perspective from a Kansas City Insider:

"Take a look at who Yael lists, The Chamber, The Civic Council . . . There may be a few back handed observations but he's basically paying homage to his corporate overloads."

Moreover . . .

"What he doesn't mention is that the membership of these groups is mostly comprised of people who don't even live in our city. So really, if Yael is for local control - That same local control isn't evident among these power brokers."

We looked through this one and it's typically out of touch, out of sync with what's happening in Kansas City neighborhoods and yet another sign of why fewer people are picking up the paper. Natch.

Comments

  1. Someone needs to fire Yael they need a younger more in touch writer not a worn out hack who plays with the rich.

  2. Well can you blame Yeal. Seriously? On this side of the state we seem to have an anarchy that continuously punishes itself as if the constituents are self proclaimed enemies of thenselvess How else to you see hacks like Mike Sanders (Jackson County) continue with a career in the political spotlight? How else do we see pet project after pet project approved by a vote of the dumb assess of KC. How else do we see modification of our government over an dover until they are able to tax, punish and approve without any blessing from the voters? The dumb assess of KC have slowly but surely turned the power over until the citizens no longer have much if any and it is the money that runs the entire show.

Until these local jackasses get up off their butts and put a stop to it they get what the get. It is just a damn shame they are so stupid as to smile all the time they are being screwed.

He's basically paying homage to his corporate overloads... Yes, but WHO is still buying this paper to read this crap?

  4. I am pretty sure that Yael is shitting bricks over Tony's criticism.

    No shortage of big egos.

  5. Yael's most clueless observation was that the voters came out to support projects like the streetcar.
Out of a population of 460,000, 375 people put the whole city on a course to spend hundreds of millions, with millions already being siphoned out of every possible nook and cranny, including street and sidewalk repair and the bus system.
Has Yael ever had actualy repsonbility for ANYTHING? When this fiasco's bills all come due, he'll just admit he was wrong, just like he was about the Funk, and just keep writing the same old crap.
The Star has become a very sorry excuse for a newspaper.

  6. Craig Glazer explained this two days ago. We suck because our leaders suck. We don't run anything, they do and don't have a clue.

  7. Yael: Voters hold the power.

Tony: I'm so bitter that I don't have Yael's job but on the bright side I can make stuff up about Yael like that pay cut he didn't get, plus make up anything else I feel like hating on. P&L. Sprint Center. A better mass transit system. The Mayor. The weather. A new airport. The Plaza. White people. Women. People who are better off than me.

Think I'll read Yael. He doesn't let his rage get in the way of his opinion...which he is entitled to.

  9. TO BE OR NOT TO BE
    by Fael Abracadabra

"It's a time-honored question that's tough to answer." This opening sentence quickly clues in the astute reader that this article will be worthless.

On the one hand, it's this....
But on the other hand, it's that...

The Civic Council of Greater KC. "..can you say translational research?"...this is offered up as a sacrificial lamb to those taxpayers fed up with higher taxes. Fael is attempting to sate your appetite of frustration by throwing you this now old bone.

"Yet the Civic Council is also responsible for one of the best things that happened to KC..." Here, he's gently guiding you down the chute, attempting to calm you before the pneumatic gun instantly drives a bolt through your brain as you're prepared for the bleed-out and slaughter.

    Six of this........
    Half a dozen of that.......

Similar tricks are used in describing the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce, Mayor and City Council members.

And finally, the Voters. Do you wonder why he saved you for the end? After first practicing false flattery...."let's not forget the most powerful people at the end of the day"....he chides voters to remember who their masters are with "..who count on the Civic Council, the chamber, the elected officials and others to bring reasonable plans to them." In Fael's World "and others" includes the Falling Star editorial staff.

Abracadabra alakazam...single terminal airport and toy train be damned!!!!

  10. Oddly enough, both the NY Times and The Star have the same problem, an irrelevant editorial department that no one takes seriously except for the fact that they believe that the news division cowtows to these morons, hence destroying the paper's reputation as a credible news source.

  11. Yael and Glazer two failing assholes this town would be better off with out.

  12. Yael is an idiot

  13. Just watched RUKUS and Fail was sitting there like a fish head on a pair of dweeb shoulders. What a poompus ass wipe. Fail was hard to stomach for 30 minutes. I totally understand why the KC falling Star is un-readable these days. If Fail is the best they can throw up as a editorial writer, that tries to influence citizens, then it easy to see why CK is such a shithole town and sinking faster that the Titanic.

  14. I just finished vomiting. I too watched Rukus tonight. I agree 100% with the Polar Bear. If Yael Fail represents the editorial board of the KC Star, then Kansas City is in deep trouble. The collection of mindless, backslapping fools on the Star editorial board are too stupid to realize they are so out of touch with reality that they have run a once great city into a third tier grouping with Detroit, Hoboken, Little Rock, Memphis, and Shreveport. No, they just keep telling themselves how great they are and KC continues to slide farther into the shithole as the Bear stated.

  15. I don't like media slap fights.

But Fael Abracadabra cracks me up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Look at the Star then look at KCC and you see why they look and act the same. Pompous ass wipes is right.

  17. I only read Twitter. I ain't looking at shit.

  18. I think we have to reconsider anarchy because these folks aren't doing it right!

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Star editorial people can have opnions just like the rest of us, but you'd hope that their opinions are based on some fact-finding, asking hard questions, and actual reporting. It would be less embarrassing if they had some idea of what they were talking about before publishing their opinions in what passes for the major newspaper in the metro.
But consistently, the observations and assertions that they've based their opinions on can be shown to be wrong with just the slightest investigation of the facts or talking with the people who are actually involved.
"We're the Star editorial board" and about two bucks will get you a medium coffee at Paneras.
These folks need to spend more time in the trenches and on the street instead of settling for the force-feeding they get at city hall and from the swells and usual suspects.
And making believe their "leadership" counts without having any responsiblity for outcomes is a joke.
