Kansas City Mayor Sly James is already in the process of launching his second bid for office and while the mainstream media is content to do nothing more than sing his praises for fear of losing their access . . . There's quite a different view of the Mayor's Administration from local neighborhoods.

To wit . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES: THE BIGGEST CRITICISM FACING MAYOR SLY JAMES RIGHT NOW IS THE OVERWHELMING NEGATIVE REACTION TO CHIEF OF STAFF JOHN McGURK!!!

We've been holding off on writing this post for nearly half a year because we like John and think he's basically a nice guy BUT so many complaints aimed at the dude demand that we cover this issue in order to voice a common complaint that Dead Tree Media denizens are too scared to report.

Accordingly . . .

HERE ARE JUST A FEW COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY AIMED THE WAY OF MAYOR SLY'S CHIEF OF STAFF JOHN McGURK!!!

Here we go:

- Kansas City Democratic Party elite think the guy is a Republican and they cite his wife's GOP Convention 2016 work as proof.



While it's certainly no crime to be a Republican . . . Touting GOP party credentials and affiliations doesn't go over well in this union and Democratic controlled town. The McGurk GOP family ties have long been a sticking point among otherwise enthusiastic supporters of Mayor Sly.

- Urban Core Politicos See McGurk As A Gatekeeper

One Insider tells TKC:

"It's really annoying seeing John trying to shut me out when he knows it's not only my job to get around him but also something that I can do easily because the Mayor needs my advice. The Mayor needs to talk to people in the community if he plans on staying in touch. This McGurk is quick to tell you the Mayor is 'booked solid' but doesn't know that Sly can't afford to hide behind him."

And the last group that we'll list who seems to be having trouble with the Chief of Staff . . .

- Kansas City Northland Denizens, Tax Fighters And Conservatives See McGurk As A Bit Of An Elitist

It's kind of a Catch-22 here given that some top Democrats don't like McGurk but then the Conservatives see the guy as part of the closed clique of liberal Ward Parkway Corridor elite politicos. It's a losing situation but it's also impossible to explain to those outside of Midtown and Corridor politics that social standing and likeability are essential in determining the pecking order for political power players like McGurk.

And here's the inevitable conclusion that we don't like but realize that it must be reported:



BOTH FRIENDS, CRITICS AND PROBABLY FANS OF CITY MANAGER TROY SCHULTE ARE CALLING ON MAYOR SLY TO CUT LOOSE CHIEF OF STAFF McGURK AS PART OF THE REELECTION CAMPAIGN!!!

Just as many suspect John is behind the effort to blame a great many City Hall failings on the City Manager . . . Now, political insiders think that it's fair play to call for John McGurk's job and sacrifice him as part of an upcoming reelection and re-branding effort for Kansas City Mayor Sly James.
