Gomez, Skaggs, and West provide early support for Rea’s unifying, grassroots campaign and aggressive commitment to overcoming division
Kansas City, MO – Today Crispin Rea, Jr., Vice-Chair of the Kansas City Missouri Public School Board of Directors, announced his candidacy for the Kansas City Council, Third District At-Large.
“Kansas City is poised to become a leading center for economic growth and innovation,” said Rea. “But without strong, visionary leadership that’s ready to listen, learn, and,form a long-term plan for our City’s shared success, our challenges stand to derail our many opportunities. That’s the kind of leader I have been on the School Board, and that’s the type of leader I will be on the City Council if I am given the opportunity to serve.”
Born and raised in Kansas City’s Third District, Rea, 28, is the youngest member ever elected to the Kansas City Missouri Public School Board of Directors, where he began serving in 2010. He serves as the Board’s Vice-Chair until his term expires in early 2014.

Good news for the 3rd. We have too many issues and need serious people.

ReplyDeleteIf you link to Mr. Rea's website, you will read about his background. This consists of a laudatory synopsis of his accomplishments with emphasis on the fact that he is a lifelong resident of KC's Third District.
Examples:
We learn that he was inspired to serve by his late mother. That his father has been a union member for 36 years.
Next, the narrative takes a turn toward a "Horatio Alger" boilerplate which is all too common among political candidates. He was "once considered an at-risk youth"!! By the grace of God, and perseverance of his parents, he attended Catholic schools to receive a superior education. Then, it was off to Park University, while working and receiving a scholarship.
While in college, he began working (or was it volunteering?) in the Mayor's office, and we're told that "no other Hispanic men or women were in leadership positions" at this time! Did you catch that dear reader? We're led to believe that as a college student, Mr. Rea was already serving in a leadership role! This is the type of distorted language that provides a clue into Mr. Rea's psychological dysfunction.
Following college graduation, the narrative reports that Mr. Rea was so "concerned about the dysfunctional state of KCPS" that he was inspired to run for the school board. We are encouraged to forget that Mr. Rea was a product of Catholic schools, as his family had abandoned the "failing school district" years earlier. While "he was elected by a wide margin" and "crafted one of the nation's strongest conflict of interest policies" as well "introduced a policy that extended protections to LGBTQIA students", no mention is made of the fact that the KCPS is an unaccredited failure! So, once again, we see a crafted narrative divorced from reality.
Are you hanging in there, dear reader? Have you put on your hip boots yet?
An entire paragraph is devoted to using the homicide of sixteen-year-old Juan Garcia, as a rhetorical device to elicit sympathetic support for Mr. Rea. I personally find this inclusion to be quite offensive!
I sense you're growing fatigued, dear reader, and discerning the true nature of this political candidate, so I'll begin to wrap things up.
On to UMKC law school, and further cementing his political relationships by serving as Jackson County Democratic Committeeman.
Our criticism is the following:
1) While Mr. Rea has certainly excelled at educational achievement, he has repeatedly sought to leverage this primarily for his own personal political advantage while singing the refrain of "noble public service." We note that he is not pursuing a career as teacher, legal public defender, etc.
2) Whether conscious of it or not, we believe that Mr. Rea is chasing an unhealthy idealized psychological image of himself, in an attempt to please the mother which he tragically lost too early in life.
3) Concerning the cited website, we find fault with Mr. Rea for the manner in which it was written and the misuse of emphasis and language. We have real fears that Mr. Rea has outed himself as a political sycophant and narcissist, who if successful, will repeat the pattern of an ego-driven, self-centered political operative who continues until they self-destruct.
You know I like fresh faces in politics, but what good is another KCMO Democrat going to do? This city has failed miserably under Democrat "leadership".

ReplyDeleteUh no, I'm a dad with three children in the school district ages 8, 13 and 17 and I'm a hater! This guy was the most unresponsive school board member. The only time he seemed to show up was if the press was there. He'd get his 5 minutes of camera time, quick interview and head for the door before anyone that mattered could ask him a question. I bet the majority of those who support him have never had children in the district. Find me someone outside of the KCPS cheer leading squad that accompanies him and West everywhere that supports this guy. I'm outraged, after his lack of leadership he has the balls to run for city council. But he'll win cause he plays the game... Thats the problem with this city's politics you either play the game or you don't get elected and this guy's game is on point. So get ready to get screwed just like the decent kids of KCPS have been since he and West took office.

If these are the kind of people who support him, what does that say about him? I for one would listen to a (reasonable) district parent on this guy's ability to govern long before I listen to the political machine that is KC politics. His supporters aren't doing him any favors on here. Haters? What is this election for, prom king? This is KC politics. Get elected to something; do as little as possible so that you don't make enemies or mistakes; schmooze the insiders and "power elite"; get lots of endorsements from people who have advanced themselves in the system just like you're trying to do; be sure to have no ideas, policy recommendations, or issues that you can actually try to do something about; agree to become a front man for one of the same old crowd and promise to keep the contracts, grants, and other goodies coming; run some silly campaign with yard signs, appearances, and receptions.
