It's a nice sentiment in the ongoing Kansas City "adult conversation" on the airport that mostly just seems like Global Prairie scrambling to suppress every bit of bad news and challenge to destroying KCI.
Congrats to Steve Rose. Common sense, properly articulated. Now let's see if "Feel Good" James wakes up and backs away from the airport reconstruction boondoggle. Or will Sly become another Mayor Smartwithnothinghouser?
ReplyDeleteSly and the gang want to have lots of exciting cutting-edge "projects' that they can boast about when they go to government conferences around the country. And it doesn't matter if they both make no sense or cost a lot...it's just your money after all.
ReplyDeleteAnd once the balloon of hot air is inflated and the urban futurist boosters are all fired up, it's pretty much impossible to turn the train around or to even slow it down.
And nobody at 12th and Oak is being honest about the costs, the bills won't come due for at least a few years, and by then the gang will be in some new elected position or working for one of the companies that made a bundle on one of their gradiose projects.
And the bills are going to take your breath away and run for decades.
There's no adult supervision at city hall and it's getting late for the public and media to weigh in.

ReplyDeleteWhat is convenient about finding out on the morning of your flight that it's leaving from a different gate in another terminal? I guess the fat-asses of KC would call it convenient just because they can be dropped off curbside, but this is only convenient if you live in the KC area and can have someone pick you up at the gate, otherwise it sucks. I have lived elsewhere and flown into KCI on business and I can tell you, it is an awful experience. This is why airlines continue to cancel direct flights every year. Next time you try to book a direct flight to anywhere but Atlanta or Dallas from KCI, let me know how convenient it is. Also, KCMO taxpayers foot the bill for airport police and maintenance personnel in the 3 current terminals, so I'm sure Mr. Johnson County loves it just fine.

ReplyDelete11:38 doesn't know a whole lot about why airlines schedule flights or the size aircrat they use, neither of which have anything to do with the age of the terminal building.
ReplyDeleteThey also don't seem to understand that the airport is an enterprise entity, which means it is paid for by the people and companies who use it and pay the appropriate taxes and fees.
Which makes me guess that they are also wildly enthusiastic about the streetcar, which they most likely don't know anything about financing either.
