"The Missouri Supreme Court set a Feb. 26 execution date for a man who pleaded guilty in the 1989 abduction, rape and stabbing death of a 15-year-old Kansas City girl.
The high court's announcement Friday of Michael Taylor's lethal injection date comes almost 23 years after he was sentenced for first-degree murder. Taylor and Roderick Nunley were charged with kidnapping Ann Harrison as she waited for a school bus near her home. She was raped, stabbed and left bleeding to death in the trunk of a car."

1. Will anybody care if the allegations of racism are rehashed?!?!? Strangely enough, I think there was even a mention of the N-word during the trial too.
2. Is there anybody more deserving of the death penalty in Kansas City?!?!
3. Most agree this is the defining incident that cause white flight in South Kansas City - Ruskin specifically ... Will the white people move back when this guy is dead?!?!
4. Will anybody dare to make the argument about cruel and unusual punishment given the nature of this dude's crimes?!?!
5. Given the nearly quarter century mark . . . How is this a deterrent to murder?!?!

ReplyDeleteIt's not. Vengeance is fun and socially acceptable form of punishment. After all, it works so well in the Black community where there is no justice, there is simply an ongoing gun battle. The state chooses a classier, less deadly form than spraying a whole neighborhood with bullets and hoping the bullet hits the right one.
Let's answer these in order;

5) This is always an argument, is it a deterrent, yes, to a point. But what it really is; appropriate punishment for the crime. And with that he should be dispatched to his death on Feb 26th

White people lose, because they get scared and/or manipulated into moving elsewhere. Years ago, Southwest High and others were full of white kids, then shady real estate people, bankers and others busted their blocks and made big dough off scaring them out into the burbs. Oh my god! Mr. Smith you got a black family on your block! You better move now, before your house is worth nothing!
Developers made big dough buying cheap land, and putting up cookie-cutter tract houses on 1/4 acre lots. Then white people had to start driving everywhere. They just keep scaring them further and further away from the city. White people must love to drive a lot.
If you work in KCMO, why would you want to live out in Olathe, Blue Springs, Shawnee, etc.? The rich people should live in close, and the poor people should have to live out in the country and do all that driving. KCMO would never have gone downhill like it has if white people had stood their ground and not been scared off.

Read The American Negro Family.Reading these books and more will help you learn that this is not just about racial relations. Remember racism is universal. It's always the same old songs about realtors in the '50s, Missouri being the last state to outlaw slavery, food deserts, digital divides, not enough money spent on KCPS, or any one of an endless list of things OTHER people need to do.

But most of the population flight from the east side has happened in the last five to ten years, because folks wants decent schools that aren't financial troughs for grifters, and neighborhoods that are safe for their kids.
But not only are there no performance standards for groups and nonprofits, there are no standards of behavior for individuals in the community.
The days of blaming others is long past.
