TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS REJECT DEAD TREE MEDIA PUSHING STL-STYLE LOCAL POLICE CONTROL OVER RESIDENT OPPOSITION!!!

It's a new year and one of the top columnists @ The Kansas City Star is still beating a dead horse pushing for local police control over public objections.

The following groups object to KCPD local control . . .

- Police Chief Forté

- Every member of the rank & file KCPD that I've ever met

- A vast array of community and Kansas City neighborhood groups also oppose local control.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS OFFER MORE TALKING POINTS AGAINST THE NEWSPAPER PUSHING KANSAS CITY LOCAL POLICE CONTROL JUST LIKE STL!!!

In KC . . . Dead Tree Media editorial writers are touting recent statements from STL authorities: Police Chief Calls Transition To Local Control 'Seamless'

That's nice but kinda overlooks the big picture . . .

One Kansas City Insider notes: "It's frightening that Yael and the newspaper want us to go down the same road as St. Louis, a place that's consistently one of the most deadly cities in the nation."

And then there's the issue of representation . . .

"EVERYONE stands in opposition to local control but the newspaper under Yael's leadership just keeps on pushing this issue. Maybe that's the reason that people are dropping their subscriptions and finding other outlets to get their information?"

One last shot . . .

"Doesn't that guy live in Raytown? It's just an example of another Kansas City institution completely out of touch. He has got no support and no standing on the issue but the newspaper is treating local control like a crusade and ignoring community advisory panels and people with direct experience in police matters. Why even pretend to consider the opinions of others when it's clear that the Mayor's office is using Yael as their mouthpiece on this issue and will continue to ignore every opinion they don't like."

  1. But local control is working so well for the schools?

Why shouldn't we trust the city council with our lives?

  2. Poor ol Yael has never managed ANYTHING and certainly doesn't know anything at all about police or public safety operations. His big hot button is that by getting local control, the IT and HR departments of the KCPD can be combined with those of the city and save some money.
But in a city that this year suffered almost a third the number of murders as New York, saving a few dollars by combining departments is not exactly JOB ONE.
Yael's become a parody of himself demanding that somehow his own personal poorly-informed decisions should be providing guidance for making decisions on this critical issue of public policy. The whole editorial board really need to get out more and learn about how things work and what's really going on.
The Star stills hang to the glory years when downtown was the center of the world and everyone hung on the editorial page's every word. But that was a very long time ago.

  3. When is the Star going to replace Yael with someone in touch with the readers. He is a jaded writer with his own agenda that does not sell a paper.Wake up

  4. I don't know if local control would be positive but we must admit the KCPD has failed at everything except raising revenue. What would be the harm in local control? Is it possible for the KCPD to become more ineffective?

Yes it is. Look at the politics in PDs and FDs all over the US. PC initiatives trump actual job performance on a daily basis.

    Baltimore is an urban shithole.

KC is getting there fast enough without Yaels help.

  7. Nobody ever talks about the elephant in the room. How sad is it that we have such little trust in our government that they can't have control. How sad is it that Kansas City doesn't demand more out of their govt. as a side note the Forte doesn't want it because it means less power and more accountability. The only interests not being addressed are the needs of the people.

  8. From Sly's lips to Fael's pen.

  9. Yael needs to be fired

    ReplyDelete
  10. If local control is so good why won't Sly submit to a state audit of the water dept.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have worked over at the Water Dept. What a fuckin racket.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yael is so out of touch he keeps taking pay cuts so the Star won't find out.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The people have spoken on this issue so let it go Yael you believe in the public process don't you.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who cares no one reads the Star

    ReplyDelete
  15. The city abused its control over the toy train "vote." If the council does not honor the airport petition, that will demonstrate the city has too much control already.

  16. Where's "fuck-him-in-the-ass" guy when you need him?

  17. I dropped my subscription to Sundays only. And the only reason I am getting it on Sunday is for the ads.

What we need to be pushing for is STOP AND FRISK!!!

  18. Kansas City, a place where the locals don't want the locals in charge of anything cities usually manage: cops, schools, services. A place where white flight has become more generalized flight (look at the census minority out-migration maps).

When a city's residents either leave or hope that it becomes a state-run non-indian reservation, it has ceased to be a city.

  19. Now this is one you could have checked on.

Why not just search the Jackson County tax payment system and verify his address?

You'd be able to see Yael lives in Kansas City and not Raytown.

So instead of running unverified nonsense from your AWESOME TIPSTERS you've just had an AWESOME LESSON in Fact Checking 101.

Slanderella 2014. There is always more and it is always worse.

As for everyone else who doesn't understand the role of an opinion columnist - can't help you there.

  20. Sly would love local control. Then he could steal money from the KCPD and give it to his toy trolley.

  21. Yael is one of the reasons I wont even think about getting a star subscription. Do people still buy KC Star papers?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Local control is a done deal, just with a longer time horizon. Sooner or later, MO legislature will decide this is not their responsibility and let go of it. The initiative will arise from non-KCMO sources, pass narrowly but quickly, and Governor will sign.

    ReplyDelete
  23. All the major urban areas in this country are going to hell because the parasites are in charge. Let them control the PD and you will have no PD.

  24. First, I feel the need to preface my comments, so as not to be misunderstood.

I'm NOT a fan of Fael, nor the KC Falling Star, and enjoy giving both of them the grief they deserve.

Now, that being said, how singularly ODD is it that the city of KCMO does not control their own police department! What is so unique about KCMO that sets it apart from all other municipalities in the nation, when it comes to this issue? Why would anyone be surprised to learn that Chief Forte is opposed to local control?

If KCMO is so incompetent and ineffective to manage their own police department, then perhaps they shouldn't be managing and controlling ANY of their current departments. Admittedly, there is a case to be made here, and I would not be opposed to privatizing the services currently provided by the city. I'm just asking for consistent policy across the board, either control the police department like other services, or relinquish control of all.

  25. Notice as his paper disappears into the void, 100% of Yael's attention is directed to the power gabbers. Working on a position as the official mouth piece of the incompetent and ineffective, he fits right in.

He's looking desperate these days to keep his cash flow no matter what happens to the city. Progresses will be the death of KCMO.

  30. Yael lives in KCMO but in the Raytown school district, which is probably the source of the confusion.

Hey Slanderella guy. I'm sure you think you're just adorable, but FYI...you slander people through spoken words, you libel someone through printed words. As far as I can see, TKC has done neither. Save your cutesy yet incorrect name calling for the real deal, why don't you?

  31. Is Slanderella guy Wilson?

  32. What fun is it to not name call people in the media and politics. Life has no meaning if they can't get some air time.

Providing a name for these sleaze bags is an art. They shouldn't be spending every minute of the day seeking attention if they don't want a name.

Yael loves 30+ comments. He's just some dope with a computer otherwise.
