Frightening. Perhaps you've already heard, but in case you haven't....

SEVEN armed robberies happened last night (January 24) around Brookside, including one on 58th and Ward Parkway between 9-10 pm where one victim was threatened with a gun to his head. 8 young, African American young men/boys, armed with guns, were in a black Jeep and another “white sedan” type car robbing people walking from their cars into area homes. The Jeep has been found but these guys are still on the loose. They beat up a guy on Walnut. Be vigilant and careful and call the police about any unusual activity you see.

Everyone keep lights outside ON, and watch out for each other.

    I live in Brookside and had heard from a friend with the police that there was a series of daytime break ins going on. Thieves approach a house, kick in the front door, and run in and grab whatever is out in the open to be taken. Then run out. This is happening in the daytime while people are at work. Even if houses have an alarm the thieves are in and out before the alarm company can dispatch the police who don't show up for 30 minutes.

    And putting in a streetcar is a priority over stopping crime.

    A man with an aluminum baseball bat beat and robbed a 40-year-old man who was walking home from a Kansas City convenience store Sunday night, police said.
    The victim suffered a possible compound fracture to his right arm in the 6:15 p.m. attack near 40th Street and Indiana Avenue.

    A witness saw the robber walk up to the victim, demand money and hit the victim in the leg with the bat. After the victim collapsed, the robber hit him twice on each arm before reaching into his coat pocket and stealing his wallet.

    I feel sorry for the residents of BKS and Ward Pkwy because they are the only areas of KCMO (south of the river, anyway) that are still fit for civilized habitation. If they ever fall, KCMO is even more screwed. Hopefully people will take a stand and report what doesn’t belong. I mean, a bunch of black thugs at 58th and Ward Pkwy?     I thank my lucky stars that when I was house-hunting last year, I regretfully gave up on Brookside because there were better deals in northern Johnson County, Kansas.

    I have lived in places where it was prudent for every household to keep firearms and ammunition at home. I don't want to do that again.
