Context according to the most KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDERS . . .
In the 3rd District, Kansas City School Board Vice-Prez Crispin Rea could take the at-large seat that has been traditionally held by an African-American elected official since the 60s.
Meanwhile . . . Jackson County legislator Theresa Garza Ruiz has more name recognition and political connections than any potential competitor at this point.
"The problem is: We don't want to send in a sacrificial lamb," one East Side Leader noted. "We want to run a challenger, but we want to run to win."
On the topic of the black/brown political connections dissolving amid the upcoming city council elections taking shape . . .
An East Side Kansas City Insider Says: "Plain and simple: Theresa identifies as white even if she is a Latina. Her support would come mostly from the white community. It's just another example of how these at-large council districts only serve to keep minorities out of power or competing against one another instead of focusing on progress for everyone."
