Surprise: This Time The Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Public Hearing Isn't Secret!!!

Newspaper notice reminds us that this extension of the toy train isn't a slam dunk since the last one of these meetings was conducted in the middle of a workday morning and mostly off the books: A Jackson County Circuit Court is scheduled to hold a public hearing April 1 and a judicial hearing April 2 to determine the legality of the proposed streetcar taxing district.

  1. It's no longer a secret probably because their getting sued over this issue. That's a good way to make a city behave and do what it was designed to do. The alternative is bankruptcy.

  2. Here's a suggestion: Don't allow the loophole of paying for this project with a "Transportation Development District" if most research suggests that it is more of an economic development tool. Even streetcar advocates will admit that.

  3. Unlike the last time when everything about the downtown TDD was kept secret and hidden, we know about it this time. We are mobilized, organized, and ready to descend en mass to this hearing. Johnson and Staubio will be overwhelmed at the turnout against streetcar expansion.

  5. Who gives a shit if it's a highly publicized meeting if we're not allowed to vote? What's the point of going to a fucking meeting if you're treated like a black person 100 years ago?

8:49 is such a bad ass. He's smarter than all of us AND he hates voting rights.

  6. i am smarter than you.

and unlike you, i understand how voting works. residents vote, businesses and non residents dont. you and sue can commiserate and maybe you can draw a really hilarious cartoon about it, like "how many non residents get does it take to screw in a lightbulb"

    fucking riotous.
